Dean Mahoney was born in Great Falls, Montana in 1965 to parents Margaret (Carrico) and David Mahoney.
Dean attended Great Falls High before studying Engineering at Montana State University. He met his wife Mary while working at a local Wendy’s and loved to tell a story about how he fell for his boss and had to start working at McDonald’s because of it. Dean loved and was very committed to his wife Mary and celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary in March 2024.
In 1985 their only child, Julie Mahoney, was born and soon after the family moved to Texas, where Dean began a successful career with Texas Instruments that lasted 30 years until he retired at 54.
Dean played in local basketball leagues for many years, bringing his family to games, enjoying his teammates’ company, and watching March Madness every year. He loved to spend time with daughter Julie watching comedy, having intellectual (or otherwise) debates, playing video games, and passing on his experience and wisdom.
Although his wife and daughter were often the impetus for bringing home new pets, Dean loved them just the same; including his latest dog Rusty, who napped cuddled-up to him and made mischief during video games and movie-watching in the media room.
Everyone who knows Dean knows how much he loved live music, going as far as to attend Sweden Rock fest with his close friend halfway across the world. He also chaperoned young Julie and her friends to concerts, including more than one Hanson (of MmmBop fame) performance that he surely wasn’t thrilled about!
A boisterous extrovert, Dean made loyal friends wherever he went and kept those connections strong, organizing get-togethers and introducing new friends. He kept everyone entertained with his infamous wry sense of humor, and we’ll remember him with every groan-inducing jest.
Dean is deeply missed, but we’ll always be connected to him through family, music, video games, basketball, and our fond memories.
Dean is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Julie, mother Margaret, brother Dan, nephew DJ, and several close members of his extended family.
Dean’s life will be celebrated in a private venue at a later date to be determined. In the meantime, we hope you will share a memory or story from his life here in the guestbook.
