David Michael Perkins

February 17, 1952 — April 8, 2026

Arlington, Texas

David Michael Perkins, a disciplined finance executive, fiercely competitive athlete, and deeply devoted Christian whose mentorship and steady presence shaped both family and colleagues, died April 8, 2026, at the age of 74.

Born February 17, 1952, and raised in Grand Prairie, Texas, David earned the nickname “Toe” as a standout kicker at Grand Prairie High School, where he was known for kicking in a square-toed loafer, an unconventional choice that reflected both his confidence and willingness to do things his own way.

At 17, he devoted his life to Christ, a decision that became the foundation for how he lived, led, and served others. He later attended Texas Tech University, a school he remained loyal to throughout his life, earning a degree in political science. After college, he became involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, continuing a lifelong commitment to his faith.

A certified public accountant, David built a long career in finance, working for American Airlines and Bluebonnet Bank before spending 23 years with Omni Hotels & Resorts as a controller and Director of Capital Finance. Colleagues often noted his intelligence and his instinct for “finding an angle,” a phrase that captured both his strategic thinking and competitive edge.

Outside the office, competition remained a constant. He played competitive softball for more than 50 years, often appearing in more than 100 games annually. He was also an avid cyclist who completed the Hotter’N Hell Hundred in four different decades, an achievement that reflected both endurance and consistency. At Omni, he organized whiffle ball and paper football tournaments that became a fixture with the company culture, with his teams regularly being the strongest. He also enjoyed watching baseball and saw the Texas Rangers win the World Series in 2023.

David was equally committed to time spent away from competition. He had a particular affection for Colorado, where he enjoyed backpacking, camping, and visiting his brother, often working together on model trains. He valued gatherings around a meal, not as a routine occasion but as time set aside to connect, reflect, and enjoy the company of family and friends.

Later in life, he met the love of his life, Carolyn Landers, at their 50-year high school reunion. Together, they built a relationship centered on time spent side by side. They shared a love of games, from Wordle and crossword puzzles to trivia, where David’s competitive nature often gave him the edge. They spent meaningful time in Horseshoe Bay, and regularly attended church and studied the Bible together.

He was widely regarded as a dedicated father and grandfather, coaching his children, Steve and Holly, and later his grandson, Cole, including leading Cole’s team to an undefeated season. He also mentored young professionals, offering guidance shaped by experience, discipline, and faith.

In his professional life, on the field, and at home, David was defined by discipline, competitiveness, and faith, leaving a lasting impression on those he coached, mentored, and loved.

David is survived by his son, Steve Perkins, and partner Lori Manning; his daughter, Holley Slater, and her husband, Blake; his grandson, Cole Slater; his brother, Dick Perkins, and his wife Shirley; his sister, Julie Perkins; his life partner, Carolyn Landers; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Florence Perkins.

A memorial service to celebrate David’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Central Bible Church, 8001 Anderson Blvd, Fort Worth, Texas 76120.
