David Peavy

March 25, 1958 — June 28, 2021

David Brinkley Peavy was born March 25, 1958, in Victoria, Texas to parents Will Dietrich and Emilie Jordan (Joy) Peavy.

David grew up in Richardson, Texas. He made life-long friends while in junior high and high school. He graduated from Richardson High School and attended Texas Tech University. Even though he attended Texas Tech, like the rest of his family, he was an avid University of Texas fan. David spent his summers on a working ranch outside of Victoria, Texas. He told many stories about his summers growing up on the ranch that included his grandparents and siblings.

Following college, David spent 13 years in the Army and Army Reserves in a medical unit. David was immensely proud of his service to his country and remained very patriotic throughout his life. After his Army discharge, David tried his hand in the restaurant business managing a burger stand on the beach and running a dinner cruise in Port Aransas. He then went to work in the oil field business eventually finding himself in Galveston, Texas. It was here that he met the love of his life, Tana. Tempting all odds, they were married on New Year’s Eve 1999, during Y2K, in a historical church that withstood the Great Storm of 1900 followed by a reception at a historical mansion. David and Tana adopted their precious children, Valentina and Bret, true siblings, from Siberia in 2002. They felt very blessed to be able to complete their family this way. After attaining his Paralegal degree, David and his family moved to Richardson to be closer to the rest of his family. He began his paralegal career in Family Law and continued until his retirement in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

David and Tana shared a love of football, spending entire weekends watching pre-season, in-season, and post-season games both college and NFL, wishing that it were a year-round sport. They also enjoyed traveling especially special trips to Napa Valley, Galveston, and most recently Waikiki Beach. David supported his children’s interests and could be found cheering them on at their various sports events. He was proud of Valentina and Bret as they grew to become young adults. He enjoyed fishing and the annual fishing trips with his junior high and high school friends in his later years.

David was diagnosed with cancer in 2014. He faced the diagnosis and treatment with great faith and positivity, knowing that God had a plan for him, and this was just a part of His plan. He felt every day since was a gift that was not to be wasted. He loved the nurses at the Methodist Richardson Cancer Center who cared for him over the years, thinking of them as Angels. He also felt this way about his Hospice Nurse, Rhonda, who was at his bedside at his passing. We will forever be thankful for all of the nurses who cared so much for David.

David is survived by his loving wife, Tana Peavy; daughter, Valentina Peavy; son, Bret Peavy; siblings, Will J Peavy and his wife Michelle; Dee Eldridge and her husband Bill, Betsy Chance and her husband James; cousins, Debbie Williams, Rick Goodman and his wife Linda, and Joe Mendenhall and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and cousin Mark Williams.
