David Dean Owens, born July 5, 1938, is the son of John Newton and Claris Owens of Sulphur Springs. In 1955 David married Judith Jenkins of Greenville, the love of his life, and they were married for 65 years.
As newlyweds, David and Judy made their home in Sulphur Springs and were members of The First Baptist Church. Soon their first son Mark David was born followed by another son, Gregory Brice. With a new job opportunity David moved his family to Jackson, Tennessee and became faithful members of First Baptist Church.
Their family grew again with the birth of their daughter Scherry Lynn. With a new opportunity David and family returned to Texas, making their home in Plano. They attended First Baptist Church and later moved their membership to Prestonwood Baptist Church where David and Judy worshiped and participated in ministries.
David was known for his dry humor, impeccable manners, humility, loyalty, kindness and thoughtfulness. He loved a hearty southern breakfast, Mexican food, Texas barbecue, salty snacks, the Dallas Cowboys, and Cruise Ship vacations. David’s legacy is his family, the quality of his character and his eternal heart commitment to his true love Judy. She described him as her “rock”. Anyone who knows David and Judy will agree their life together was a love story sparked by passion, made into one flesh through Christ, held together though God’s grace and forgiveness and now made eternal, together as one with their Savior in heaven.
David and Judy’s grandchildren from Mark and Tina Owens are Jessica Owens Palomo, Jennifer Owens Self, Jeana Owens and David Owens.
