Daniel Borowiak was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania to parents Walter Thomas and Irene (Sullick) Borowiak and grew up and graduated from high school in nearby Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He was lovingly called Danny by his family, which included four older sisters and one older brother. He had many fond memories from childhood including learning how to do many things from his dad, regular vacations to the shore with family & friends and coming home one night to see his parents through a window, dancing in the kitchen.
Danny completed a bachelor’s degree in electrical design engineering technology at Penn State Harrisburg. During his time in college, he was awakened spiritually by God as he reflected on a speaker’s message. It caused him to realize that the Devil was real and that if the Devil was real, then God was real. If God was real, then Jesus was real, and he had some choices to make. He made the choice to follow Christ. After college, he worked in Baltimore, and attended night classes at Arlington Bible College. His favorite teacher was Al Knoblock, who helped him learn to love God’s Word and life itself. His favorite author to study was C.S. Lewis.
In the mid 1980’s Danny had an opportunity to work at a civilian job for the Department of Defense doing technical writing. He began using his formal given name, Daniel, around this time. He lived in Wiesbaden Germany, where he made many friends and traveled across Europe and into Egypt. He took up photography and enjoyed capturing images of nature and humanity, as well as architecture. He became proficient at skiing, and it remained one of his favorite sports. His last downhill run was in February of this year in Telluride, Colorado.
After a few years, Daniel returned to the United States and spent a few years studying at Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas while revitalizing a fixer-upper house. A technical writing job prompted a move to Plano, Texas where he worked until the communications sector had massive layoffs. Little did he know when he picked up a temporary job driving a school bus for Plano ISD that he would find a new career with PISD. He eventually moved to a full-time position on the Outside Crew and found a niche starting and serving on the Video/Technology Team – caring for security cameras on the large fleet of district buses. He worked for the district for 22 years. During his early years in Plano, he was actively involved in community groups and the Singles ministries at Northwest Bible and Watermark Community Churches, as well as Dallas Christian Singles.
In 2014, he began dating Lori McClellan – his green-eyed girl. They eventually married on June 10, 2016. He learned to like board games and Mexican food (the latter was a deal-breaker). They enjoyed biking, live music, attending arts festivals, dancing, and traveling together. Favorite destinations included Costa Rica (honeymoon), upstate New York, Steamboat Springs, Colorado and Savannah, Georgia. They also loved traveling to spend time with family in Central Texas, South Carolina, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Illinois, and Colorado and shared the joy of adventures with their six beloved grandchildren. As a couple they became active members of Zoe Community Church, where Daniel was a Community Group co-leader, and served on the greeting and sound/tech team.
Daniel liked to explore the U.S. and engaged whole-heartedly in many sports including skiing, sailing, bicycling, sand volleyball, swimming, scuba-diving, and kayaking. He enjoyed cross-country treks with roommates and friends during his single years.
He loved to build and fix things and always had several projects going. While he’s always liked to cook, he had really advanced his skills in the past two years, studying cooking videos and exploring new ingredients and techniques. Of course, if he cooked, that meant someone else would clean up!
Daniel became ill in mid-May with what seemed to be a virus that was going around. After a week of misery, bloodwork revealed that he had a bacterial infection. Tests eventually showed that the bacteria had settled on his heart valve. After a long, but seemingly successful surgery, his heart stopped when the surgeon began to close his chest and he did not revive. Instead, he entered into the presence of his Lord Jesus Christ. He was a husband, brother, friend and DanDan to his grandchildren. He was an animal magnet and couldn’t keep himself from spoiling his pets.
Daniel was a kind and gentle man with a servant’s heart. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
Daniel is survived by his wife Lori Borowiak; stepchildren Emily Sparks, Elijah Mc Clellan and his wife Kelsey, Eryn Wilson and her husband Tyler; grandchildren Chayton, Lola, Micah, Bennett Sparks and Livvy and Ruby Mc Clellan; siblings Pat Gaylor and her husband Bob, Nancy Batkosky and her husband Denny, Joyce Seydl and her husband Franz, Mariellen Borowiak, Walt Borowiak and his wife Betsy and several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
