Cynthia Diane Carstens Whiting, age 69, passed away early Sunday morning on December 7, 2025, with her family by her side, after a long battle with cancer.
Diane was born March 20, 1956, in Coco Solito, Panama Canal Zone. Her father was in the oil business, so she lived in many towns in Texas, Oklahoma, Wyoming, and Alaska while growing up. She graduated from Ponca City High School in Oklahoma.
Diane, as she liked to be called by friends, married her forever love, Matt, on April 17, 1981. They lived mostly in the Dallas area, having also spent 4 years in southern California. After settling in the Dallas area, she earned an Associate of Applied Arts and Sciences (AAS) in Commercial Music Recording Engineering Technology, with a Performing Musician Vocalist minor. She was part of Phi Theta Kappa and recognized in Who's Who in America's Junior Colleges.
Diane immersed herself in many circles and shared a deep love for a wide range of passions with her friends and family – from music, Blenko glass, the Dallas Stars, and the Dallas Cowboys to the local Dallas music scene and the Rocky Horror Picture Show (RHPS) community, where she met the love of her life. Above all else, Diane’s heart belonged to the people she loved, her family and friends. She treasured being a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, cousin, and friend. She welcomed everyone with an open heart and accepted people exactly as they were. She gave herself completely to the people she loved – cheering them on in their victories, supporting them through difficult times. Diane showed up for everything and everyone – little league games, concerts, competitions, and countless gatherings. Those who knew her cherished her unwavering presence and the memories created through her steadfast support.
Professionally, Diane was a supply chain management professional, working as a supply chain and manufacturing operations manager at a local firm in Farmer’s Branch, and then later as a senior buyer for supply line management at AT&T. She later shared ownership of Collin County Choppers with her husband and served as the Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing. No matter the workplace, she transformed it into a place of connection and care. Coworkers became friends, and friends became like family.
Our hearts are heavy today, but they are also full of gratitude for the life we shared with Diane, her kindness and love, and the countless ways she touched each of us. We take comfort in knowing she is now whole, healed, and free from pain in Heaven.
She will be missed; she will never be forgotten; she will forever be a part of who we are.
Diane leaves behind her mother, Merleen Arnold Carstens, her siblings Dennis Ryan Carstens, Cathy Michelle Trehus, and Richard Todd Carstens, her children, Crystal Vanessa Wells (and husband, Jammie), and Chalin Diana Mieir. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Dylan, Tyler, Destiny Diane, Xiala, Lela, Angelina, Starla, and Briella, and great-grandchildren, Annaleigh, Aviana, Emberly, and Liam. She was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Stone Whiting, and her father, Frederick Davenport Carstens, Jr.
There will be a celebration for Diane’s life at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2700 Roundrock Trail, Plano, Texas 75075. The family will receive friends for a visitation one hour prior to service from 12:00-1:00 p.m.
