Cletis Landers

Cletis Landers passed away March 23, 2020 at the age of 98.

Cletis was born near Plano, Texas on December 2, 1921. He was the fifth of six sons born to Lawrence and Eva Standerfer Landers. He attended the Cottonwood School northeast of Plano and later Murphy High School where he was quarterback of the six man football team. He and Florence Mann of Parker began dating in their early teens and were married on September 7, 1941. After his father’s death, he continued to farm the land that is now part of the Los Rios neighborhood in east Plano.

He joined the Army in the latter part of WWII and served in Occupied Japan after the war. Upon returning from the Army, he began a forty-year career in commercial construction. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Plano and served for many years as a volunteer fireman with the Plano Volunteer Fire Department.

Cletis was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 67 years, Florence and son, Steve Landers. Also preceded in death by his brothers Clarence, Cecil, Chester, Clifford and Clyde.

He is survived by his son Jimmy Landers and wife, Tammy, daughter-in-law, Nancy Landers. Grandchildren, Drew Landers and wife Molli, Amy Landers Dean and husband Curtis, Reid Landers and girlfriend, Dominique Sellers, James Watson and wife Amanda, Christy Watson Delany and husband, Keith. Great grandchildren, Haven Landers, Jordan Caldwell and Jenna Pope, Avery, Lucas and Mason Watson, and Kyle Dean.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 26, 2020 at 11:00 am, First Baptist Church of Plano,1300 East 15th Street. The family asks that social distancing be practiced at the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Benevolence Fund at First Baptist Church Plano, 1300 East 15th Street, Plano, Texas 75074. Fbcplano.org This fund will be used to help families in need.
