Clare Clell Eaton, age 86, of Plano, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
Born in Lansing, Michigan and raised in St. Johns, Clare graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in 1957. He was appointed to the United States Naval Academy as a Midshipman on July 1, 1957, and graduated on June 6, 1961. He then entered the United States Air Force on June 7, 1961, proudly serving his country as a combat pilot during the Vietnam War. During his military career, he was recognized with numerous medals and commendations including the Air Medal with Seven Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Longevity Service Award, the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star, and the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. Clare achieved the rank of Captain and received his honorable discharge in February 1967.
Following his military service, Clare continued his lifelong passion for aviation as a commercial pilot, beginning with Braniff International Airways in 1967 and later flying with Piedmont Airlines and US Airways until his retirement in 1998.
Clare married Alicia on September 28, 1968. They met through their shared connection to aviation, as Alicia worked as a flight attendant. Shortly after they married, she stepped away from flying to focus on their family and life together. They shared more than five decades of marriage.
Clare is survived by his wife, Alicia; his son, Karl Eaton, and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Muhs; his daughter, Heather Snyder, and son-in-law, Todd Snyder; and his grandchildren, Daegan, James, and Ana Isabela Snyder, who will always carry with them the family history and experiences they shared with him.
Clare enjoyed hunting, camping, skiing, and sports — especially cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, proudly holding season tickets for many years. He also loved barbecuing for family and spending time with his dog, Beau.
The family appreciates the support and kind thoughts from all who knew him.
Clare will be laid to rest with military honors at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 25, 2025, where his service and sacrifice will be forever honored.
