Cheves Hilton

November 20, 1924 — August 16, 2021

Cheves Barrington Hilton was born in Clio, South Carolina on November 20, 1924, to Victor Cedric Barrington, Sr., and Cheves Easterling Barrington.  She passed to Heaven on August 16, 2021.

After graduation from High School she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to attend Carolina Business School where she graduated with excellence and went to work for Wachovia Bank.  She soon met Robert (Bob) M. Hilton, Sr. and they were married in 1949.  They were blessed with 4 children, Robert, Mary, and Dwight all born in Charlotte and subsequently moved to Dallas, Texas in 1965 where Alice was later born.

Cheves and her family attended Good Samaritan and St. John’s Episcopal Churches where she volunteered on the altar guild and in the St. John’s Book & Gift Shop.  She later attended Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Heath prior to moving to Allen, Texas where she was a member and attended Christ Church Plano.  Cheves also served on the Gaston Avenue Hospital Auxiliary and The Baylor Institute of Rehabilitation promoting faith-based medicine and healing.

She loved reading, needlepoint, crochet, and playing the piano for her children with Mary and Alice following her passion for piano.  She also enjoyed watching and attending sports games with her children and grandchildren.  She was particularly fond of the Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Mavericks.

Cheves lived in a way that brought warmth and acceptance to everyone who knew her.  Her capacity for grace was truly unmatched.  She was a woman who breathed peace into the world with every word she spoke.  She maintained countless relationships across the country for almost a century with her beautiful personalized handwritten notes.  Her deep faith and love for others, smiles, kindness, patience, and beautiful stories will be missed by all.

Cheves is survived by her son:  Robert M. Hilton, Jr., and wife Fran; daughter: Mary Hilton Kuykendall Slack and husband Dave; son:  Dwight Hilton; daughter:  Alice Hilton Corbin and husband Charlie; grandchildren:  Bobby Hilton, Alexander Kuykendall, Brandon Kuykendall, Courtney Corbin Blackburn and husband Jake, Logan Corbin, and Ava Hilton; great grandchild Ariana Hilton; and countless nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents:  Victor Cedric Barrington, Sr., and Cheves Easterling Barrington; and brother Victor Cedric Barrington, Jr.

A memorial service will be held to honor her life 11:00 am, Thursday, August 26, 2021, at Christ Church Plano, 4550 Legacy Dr., Plano, Texas with Father Jeff Rawn officiating.  The family will receive friends and family at a reception following the service.
