Charles H. Browne, 90, passed away peacefully and was received in the arms of his Lord and Savior on May 29, 2021, in Plano, Texas, surrounded by his family.
Charlie, as he was known to his many friends, was born in El Paso, Texas on September 4, 1930, to Walter and Dorothy Browne. He attended Austin High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Texas Western College in 1952 (now University of Texas at El Paso). He served as an officer in the US Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 stationed at Ft. Bliss, where he attained the rank of 1 st Lieutenant working as an engineer in the Nike-Hercules guided missile program.
He married Joan Elizabeth Curtis in 1952, the beginning of what would be a 68-year love story. The couple was inseparable as they raised a family and built an incredible life together. They met while working at El Paso Natural Gas Company. Following his military service, Charlie had a long and successful career at the Gas Company, retiring in senior management in 1986, followed by several years as a very successful realtor.
Charlie lived most of his life in El Paso, a true West-Texas boy, where he was active in his church and community. Most of all he loved being with family, watching his beloved UTEP Miners basketball team and the Dallas Cowboys. He also loved playing golf, fishing, traveling, playing bridge and spending time with his many life-long friends. Throughout his life, Charlie was known for his optimism, encouraging nature, and personal warmth. He had a deep and abiding faith and served as a Deacon for over 40 years at Immanuel Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of El Paso. He and Joan moved to Plano in 2015 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
He is survived by the love of his life, Joan and their three sons and daughters-in-law: David and Lisa, Curtis and Lana, and Bruce and Leslie. He also adored his seven grandchildren and their families: Adam Browne (wife Christie), Joanna Sariles (husband Gil), Erin Wereda (husband Brian), Ashton Baginski (husband Kyle), Allison Rozell (husband Zach), Evan Browne, and Preston Browne. Charlie especially loved spending time with his six great grandchildren.
Charlie was predeceased by his father Walter, his mother Dorothy, and sister, Carol Russell.
