Charles D Beard

Charles D Beard was born January 18, 1936 to William Albert and Elsie Ree (Jones) Beard in Waynesboro, Mississippi.  Charles was welcomed into the presence of Jesus the morning of May 4th, 2019.

Charles had a gift for music that began at an early age when he would practice piano on the steps of his childhood home. This gift would take him through Mississippi College and to Golden Gate Seminary in San Francisco where he met his wife, Reina Hurlbut. He Married Reina Ann Hurlbut on August 26, 1962. They moved to California to begin their teaching careers. In addition to teaching school, Charles also led music for 20 year at several churches in northern California.

After a successful career in school administration, Charles embarked on a new adventure opening a chain of florists with business partner Gary Beam. After building a successful business he was ready for a new challenge. In 1993, the entire family moved to Plano, Texas where Charles and Gary would begin a new career as interior designers under the name Thurston David Interiors. It was also at this time that the family found a home at Prestonwood Baptist Church where Charles would serve many years as usher. He also served on the board of the Allen Philharmonic.

Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a beloved son and brother who will be greatly missed by his family. A faithful follower of Christ, he loved people, never met a stranger, and had a special place in his heart for his team of ushers at Prestonwood.

He is survived by his wife, Reina Beard, daughter, Donna Beard; son, Darren Beard Sr. and wife, Stacy; grandchildren, Darren Beard Jr., Christian Beard and wife, Marissa, ShelbyAnn Schroen and husband Raymond, and EmmaLee Beard; great grandchildren, Sophia Hollowell and Claire Beard; siblings William Beard and wife Billie, Grady Beard and wife Thelma, Marilyn Cain and husband Jerry, Kathy Johnson and husband Harold, longtime business partner and friend, Gary Beam, and many loving nieces, nephew and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends at a visitation Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 7:00-9:00 P.M. at Allen Family Funeral Options.  A memorial service will be held Friday, May 10, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Prestonwood Baptist Church, Faith Chapel, 6801 W Park Blvd, Plano, Texas 75093 with Pastor Neal Jeffrey officiating.
