Catherine Ann Caulk was born April 30, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri to parents Matthew and Helen (Angermayer) Caulk. She was named after mother’s sister and known by the nickname of “Aunt Kitty”. So, it made perfect sense to the Connelly clan to call the younger Catherine, “Kitten”. Unfortunately, she didn’t particularly like the name “Kitten” especially as she went through Catholic grade school at Redemptorist, then a year at Logan High School and finally graduating at 16 from Westport High School in Kansas City.
She went to work at the Sears store in the Plaza where she met Charlie. After their first date she came home and told her sister Pat, “I don’t know if it will be him, but it will be someone like him that I marry.”
On April 21, 1956 they married. It was a beautiful spring day even though she made her sister Pat, wear the wrong dress. They celebrated their 61 st wedding anniversary this past April.
The couple had 4 daughters while living in Kansas City then in August of 1964 Charlie’s job with Sears moved the family to Austin, Texas. That move gave Cathy the freedom to drop the “Kitten” nickname except for close family.
The family moved several times over the next 20 years; Austin, Houston, Roswell, Port Arthur, Shreveport, Oklahoma City and finally stopped in Plano, Texas 31 years ago.
The family often went back to Kansas City for visits. Over the years Cathy kept in touch with her best friend Helen Cassidy. Helen was “Kitten’s” Maid of Honor and then a few years later, in 1959 “Kitten” was Helen’s Matron of Honor as she became Helen Nash.
In retirement Cathy and Charlie traveled extensively on several cruises, traveling to Hawaii, Russia, Alaska and the California wine country. But one of their favorite places was the Mediterranean for their 50 th wedding anniversary. Cathy and Charlie had fond memories of their time in Greece.
Cathy was very active in the Catholic Church, specifically as Eucharistic Minister; until her disease progressed to a point where she could no longer serve in that ministry. She was an avid tennis player and homemaker. She was active with her daughters in Girl Scouts as Assistant Troup Leader and cookie chair.
Cathy is survived by her loving husband Charlie, daughters, Susie Morgal, Karen Caulk, Colleen Zuberbier (Roger), Donna Latham (Scot), grandchildren Kim Morgal, Matt Morgal (Erin), Chris Morgal (Alex) and Jonathan Latham, one great grandson Max Morgal, brother John Connelly and sister Pat Lowe. She was preceded in death by her parents and her infant son William Charles Caulk, Jr.
Sadly, Cathy was stricken by a rare disease during the last decade of her life; Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, if desired, contributions may be made to CurePSP. CurePSP, 30 E. Padonia Road, Suite 201, Timonium, Maryland 21093 or https://www.psp.org/iwanttohelp/ways-to-give/
