Carolyn Joyce (Lade) Wiens of Celina, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born in Brushy Creek on March 8, 1942, a small community near Palestine, Texas. She spent her childhood there on the family farm—the youngest of four siblings. After graduating with honors from Frankston High School, she attended Lon Morris College with voice and academic scholarships then earned a bachelor’s degree at Sam Houston State Teacher’s College.
Carolyn excelled in her career as a public-school teacher, where she served in leadership and was nominated for the school district’s teacher-of-the-year. Third grade was her favorite as were the faculty and staff at Charles A. Gill Elementary School in Dallas. Carolyn retired in the early 2000’s and poured herself into her eight, loving grandchildren.
Carolyn was an exceptionally dedicated mother who sacrificed much for her children throughout her life. She was a Boy Scout den mom and an avid supporter of her sons’ band program at South Garland High School. Carolyn was a dedicated Christian and long-time member of Prestonwood Baptist Church—participating in a Life Group class with dear friends.
Carolyn is survived by her two sons, daughters-in-law, and nine grandchildren: Craig and Phyllis Garrett of Mandeville, Louisiana, and their five children; Todd and Laura Garrett of McKinney, Texas, and their three children—plus a grandchild. Her devoted sister, Julia Whitney of Humble, Texas, is her last surviving sibling. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Stella Lade of Frankston, her sister, Dorothy Johnson, her brother, Bobby Lade, and Craig’s and Todd’s father, Johnny Garrett.
Memorial service arrangements are pending. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation in her memory to the Prestonwood Pregnancy Center or a charity of your choice.
