Carol E Wassenar, 71, of Plano, was called to eternal rest on October 28, 2019. She was born October 20, 1948 in Montgomery, Alabama, the only child of parents Durward and Mary (Owen) Easterling.
She graduated from Sidney Lanier high school in Montgomery and attended Troy State University for a short time before starting work at First Alabama Bank. While employed there she met Ken, was married in 1977, and moved to Plano in 1979 after Ken left the Air Force. Carol then began working at American National Bank in Plano, and remained there for several years, eventually deciding she would rather pursue other interests. For many years this included a busy schedule transporting Kristen around town to all the activities in which she participated. She often commented how much easier it was to drive around Plano in those days.
Carol enjoyed needlepoint and cross-stitch and would not call the day complete until finishing all the puzzles in the newspaper. Always willing to try a new recipe, she gathered a massive collection. Some were discarded, while others became a family favorite. The grandsons presented a new culinary challenge, but she met that by having a fresh carrot cake available every time they visited. An avid reader, there was always a collection of her favorite novels nearby, and she recently achieved a long-time goal of reading through the Bible in one year.
Carol is survived by her husband Ken Wassenar, daughter Kristen Straw and her husband Billy, and grandsons Trey and Andrew Straw, all of Little Elm, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents,
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Allen Family Funeral Options, 2112 W Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, Texas.
