Carol Kuether Sheffield was born on May 12, 1941, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, to parents Elva Eirich Kuether and Helmuth Kuether.
She attended Bethlehem Lutheran School in Sheboygan through the eighth grade and graduated from Central High School in 1959. After graduation, she worked for the Sheboygan Parks and Recreation Department as a secretary. She met Tullio Sheffield, the love of her life, around this time. They were married at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on August 17, 1963.
Shortly after their marriage, Carol became an Air Force wife, following Tullio around the country on his various deployments. She returned home to Sheboygan while he served in Vietnam, but she rejoined him upon his safe return and sought secretarial work in every location to which he was deployed.
In 1967, she and Tullio settled in Garland, Texas, and then moved to Plano a year later. Carol gave birth to two daughters, Christine and Rachelle, and devoted her time to taking care of them. She was also an active volunteer at Faith Lutheran Church, creating and printing the bulletin before there was a full-time secretary, helping with Vacation Bible School for many years, and working with the Faith Lutheran Action Group. Like her husband, she was ready to step in and help however she could in her community.
An avid and masterful seamstress, Carol had most recently learned digital embroidery and loved using those talents to create clothing and gifts for her family and friends. Her creations never failed to bring smiles to the faces of those that received one of her completed projects.
A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Carol always put her family first and was a constant, supporting presence in her family’s life until her passing. Her faith was strong and a witness to those she knew, even in the end. She drew strength from that faith throughout her life, especially as she fought her cancer.
Carol went to her heavenly home and met the Lord on March 23, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. She is survived by her daughters, Christine Gray (Steven) and Rachelle Garza (Albert); and her grandchildren, Zachary Gray, Alexander Garza, Ashley Gray, and Ian Garza, her brothers Nyle Kuether and Mike Kuether, and her sister Helen Perleberg.
Carol will be greatly missed and will hold a special place in our hearts until we see her again.
Faith Lutheran Church of Plano will host a memorial service at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 1, 2023. A light lunch will follow the service. She will be laid to rest with her husband, Tullio, at the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery on Monday, May 22, 2023
