Carl Woods Claxton, Jr

Carl Woods " Woody" Claxton, Jr., passed away on March 13, 2019, at the age of 80. Carl was born on March 22, 1938, in Shelbyville, Tennessee, to Carl and Margaret Claxton, they later moved to Chattanooga, where he grew up.

Mr. Claxton attended Tennessee Tech and served in the Army Reserves. Later he became a JC Penney management trainee in Chattanooga and rose to store manager, transferred to its New York headquarters and then moved to Overland Park, Kansas as district manager. In 1996 he relocated to Plano, Texas to be closer to his children and started his own management company.

While living in Plano, he became heavily involved in serving the community through volunteer work serving over 5,000 people. In 2017 he was honored by the Texas Legends, "G" League Basketball team, for all his hours of community service. He never met a stranger and would help anyone in need. Along with his big heart and a sense of humor, he was the man about town with his cowboy hat and boots, not on a horse but in his Lincoln. He was an avid Tennessee  football fan, a basketball fan, fisherman, and also enjoyed ranching and raising cattle.

Carl is survived by his wife of 21 years, Lucille ( Alexanian ) Claxton; his daughter, Mary Morgan, and husband Jay Stobaugh of Dallas, Texas; his son, Mark Claxton and wife Allison of Allen, Tx; 7 grandchildren: Parker, Kate And Maggie Morgan, Kelsey, Madison, Will and Mackenzie Claxton; his brother Larry Claxton and wife Betty from Raleigh North Carolina, his niece Meredith Gilbert and husband Currie, and their two children, Mathew Claxton and his wife Kim Claxton and their two children, several cousins and their families.
