Carl Sanford “Sandy” Peck, age 75 of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019 after a long courageous battle from leukemia, heart and liver disease. He had recently moved to Plano, Texas to live and spend his last days with his son, daughter and grandchildren.
He was born on June 7, 1944 in Elk City, Oklahoma to parents Paul Sanford Peck and Mary Ann Ekstrom Peck. His grandparents were Edwin Carl Ekstrom and Ethel Sophia Salmonson Ekstrom. The family patriarch, Edwin Ekstrom, was founder of Greyhound Bus Lines, a very proud legacy for the family. He grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, and graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1962. He attended A & M University as a cadet, and later graduated from University of Houston. He was enlisted in the Marine Corps as a mechanical engineer in 1965 and was a wartime veteran. He also continued his service in the military reserves. His career included all facets of the trucking industry, following in the footsteps of both his father and grandfather. He owned and operated Austin Mack Sales in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. He retired from French Ellison Truck Center in Corpus Christi, Texas in 2012.
Sandy had a great love for cars and boats. He raced boats in his younger years and restored numerous vintage automobiles. He was happiest under the hood of any vehicle and spent many hours restoring and fine tuning his big yellow Formula boat from the 1970’s that he was so proud of. He also enjoyed music, animals, sports and most of all, his family. He was a Dad of all Dads, from coaching his kids baseball teams and taking a big part in Cub Scout leadership, to heading up Friday family pizza night. He was a gentle and caring man and was respected by friends and relatives of all ages. He had a laid back manner and friendly nature and a beautiful winning smile that will always define him by many.
He leaves a son, Corbin Nelson Peck of Plano, Texas; former daughter in law Cynthia Peck of Princeton, Texas; daughter Lyndsey Elaine Peck and her partner Chris Edwards of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Carson W. Peck and Nixon A. Peck; brother Randall Nelson Peck from Corpus Christi, Texas. He also leaves his loving partner Patty Stirneman Fenton of Corpus, Christi, Texas and her daughter and son-in-law Dee-Dee and Jeff Stolhand from Buda, Texas, his former wife, Lynn Peck and her partner Dave Harris from Argyle, Texas, niece and nephew, Lillian and Alex Mattis from Austin, Texas and many many other friends and relatives that loved him and will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and nephew, Benjamin Gilker.
There will be a graveside service Friday, January 24, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi.
