Byron A Niebruegge, M.D.

January 10, 1940 — June 4, 2024

Byron A. Niebruegge, M. D., beloved husband, father, Poppy, brother-in-law, cousin, friend and outstanding physician, was welcomed into his Heavenly Savior's arms on June 4, 2024.  Following years of battling more than one cancer, he suffers no more.

Byron was born on January 10, 1940, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Viola Verena and Fred Henry Niebruegge.  He grew up on a farm in Mountain Park, Oklahoma, working alongside his mom and dad where they grew cotton, wheat and raised cattle. During the days that he drove tractors and combines, there were no cabs, radios, or air conditioning. His work ethic was ingrained. His love of our Lord was too.
He grew up attending Mountain Park United Methodist Church where his love and faith in Jesus Christ our Lord was part of his soul.

Elementary school years were in Mountain Park, and he later attended Snyder High School, where he played basketball and made straight A’s.
Byron attended Oklahoma University in Norman for eight years, through medical school, and was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.  As an enthusiastic Sooner who especially loved OU football, the fall schedule revolved around those games.  The family of three remained staunch OU fans and attended many games even after moving to Plano in 1980.  OU/TX Weekend was a big event.

Byron and Teri met and knew they were meant to be together. Their daughter, Shannon, completed the joy and happiness of life as a family.  He often said that he would rather be with his love than be on any golf course. Their long-time membership of Christ United Methodist Church has been a blessing to them and has deepened the faith they rely on daily.

Byron was a flight surgeon in the Air Force during the Vietnam years, proudly serving his country.  After a few years in private practice, he took a position as the Occupational Physician for Sun Oil Refinery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Byron was Board Certified in Employee & Environmental Health.  Moving to Plano for Sun was to open an employee health office for Sun’s facilities west of the Mississippi and all of International Sun operations. He then served as the corporate physician for the General Motors plant in Arlington, TX and in later years he served as Area Medical Director for Concentra.  He thoroughly enjoyed continuing to use his skills in his semi-retirement years, reviewing Workers’ Comp cases working from home or on the go. Byron considered the Hippocratic Oath sacred and was always an ethical, compassionate patient-advocate who practiced medicine with kindness and empathy.  He truly was a man of integrity.

Reading spy novels, Teri’s book club books, so they could discuss & critique them, cruising with his love and sometimes taking the whole family, Shannon, Brian, & Isaiah on Disney or Alaskan cruises was a joy he said he would cherish forever.  Italy & Maui were his favorite places to be, besides home.

Byron’s love for his family was unsurpassed.  Being Poppy to Isaiah was a priceless joy of his life.  He is survived by his wife Teri, daughter Shannon, son-in-law Brian and grandson Isaiah Byron.  He is also survived by his brother-in-law David and his wife Phyllis who provided nieces and nephews to love.  Kenneth Niebruegge, Byron’s cousin, and his wife Cathy have faithfully watched over & cared for the family's farm in Oklahoma.

Byron is preceded in death by his parents, Viola Verena Oberg Niebruegge and Fred Henry Niebruegge, and his sister, Beverly Johnson.

We look forward to a glorious Heavenly reunion one sweet day!
