Brent Nelson McCain, 81, of Frisco, Texas passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025, after battling multiple illnesses throughout his life. His inner strength, his courage, resilience and zest for life will forever have an impact on all who knew him. We will miss his smile, his fortitude, his witty humor, his birthday serenades, his love for his dogs (Sonny, Haley, Bonnie, Sadie), old movies, golf, Miller Lite beer and 70s rock music.
Brent was a lifelong Texan. Born in Hereford on March 2, 1944, he was the oldest of four sons. During his childhood, he lived in Spur. The family lived briefly in Graham and then moved to Gainesville. Though his family relocated, he did not let that stop him from making friends. Brent never met a stranger, was a star athlete and graduated at the top of his class from Gainesville High School in 1962. He made lifelong friendships while living in Spur and continued to return to his hometown for annual reunions up until his death.
Brent developed a remarkably strong work ethic at a very young age as he helped his father manage multiple movie theaters. This work ethic, determination and grit became the foundation on which he built his life. In 1968, he graduated with a Business Accounting degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. He then earned his CPA and began his career in auditing and federal tax accounting for local CPA firms. In 1975, Brent met the love of his life, Ellen, while working together at Dresser Industries. They were married in 1982, and he became a stepfather to Ellen’s three children, Carol, Jim and Julie. Brent later received his MBA from the University of North Texas in 1980 and in 1987 began working for EDS as a federal tax accountant. In 1992, he opened a private accounting practice, which he owned and operated until he retired in 2011.
Many fun family memories were made on the local Dallas lakes where Brent and Ellen took the kids and taught countless friends and family to water ski over the years. He was patient and encouraging and took great joy watching each new skier finally get up on the water or bouncing them off the tube amid big waves.
As an avid golfer, Brent loved spending his days on the golf course with Ellen, his brothers and friends. He was a member of Dallas Athletic Club (DAC) for 23 years and played most every course in the Dallas area over the years. He was an accomplished golfer and once scored a double eagle on the first hole of the Blue Course at DAC. He treasured his recent family trip to Augusta National, where they were able to watch a round at the Masters.
Brent had a very complex medical history. He was often unwell growing up and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 16. At the time, doctors told him that he would not live into his 30’s, but he defied the odds and lived to be 81. His medical struggles continued into adulthood. Brent was a medical anomaly when he was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of 67. He had heart disease, severe electrolyte imbalances, dementia and normal pressure hydrocephalus. None of these daunted his spirit or kept him from living a full and happy life.
Brent is survived by his loving wife, Ellen; stepchildren Carol Ross (Wayne), Jim Blasingame (Amy), Julie Hay (Wes); grandchildren Kevin Ross (Julia), Luke, Adam, Brooke and Jack Blasingame, Aidan and Jimmy Hay; great-grandchild Amelia Ross, brothers Charles McCain (Linda), Mike McCain (Bobbie) and Kenny McCain (Paula) and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by both of his parents, J.D. and Nellie McCain.
Brent’s life was defined by resilience, courage and perseverance. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the memories and stories shared by those who knew and loved him.

1 Corinthians 5:7-9
For we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So, whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.
Luke 23:43
“And he said to him, ‘Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.’”
