Bobby Frank Hull

April 23, 1932 — January 27, 2022

Bobby Frank Hull was born April 23, 1932, the oldest of three children, in Oswalt, Oklahoma, to Frank and Mary Thelma (Northcutt) Hull.  He developed a strong work ethic early in life, driving the tractor for his family’s farming operation.  The family moved to Johnston County, Oklahoma where they farmed for a few years, then to the Bromide “Y”, where his parents operated a general store.  He graduated high school at Wapanucka, Oklahoma in 1950, and Murray State College in 1952.  He continued his education at Oklahoma A&M College (OSU) and received a B.S. degree in Agriculture Education in 1954.  It was at A&M that he met Nellie Thompson, and they were married in 1953.

After serving two years in the U.S. Army as a radio operator and instructor, he returned to Oklahoma and went to work in 1957 for Continental Emsco, an oilfield supply company, as a Management Trainee.  Bobby progressed from Store Trainee to Field Salesman, Store Manager, City Sales, Manager of Stores in charge of 17 stores in Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas, Assistant Regional Manager of the Tulsa Region, and at retirement in 1995, he was Materials Manager in the home office in Garland, Texas.  He completed more than 38 years with Continental Emsco.  His work took him to several locations in Oklahoma and Kansas, and finally to Plano in 1989.  At each assignment, he and Nell always found a Southern Baptist Church to attend.

After his first “retirement” in 1995, he continued consulting for two years, commuting to Houston, then retired again.  He spent the next three years at various jobs and volunteering and played a little golf.  He and Nell drove cars for three local dealerships and participated in the re-hab of several houses in Plano, including First Baptist’s first store-front Hispanic Mission on Avenue K at 18 th Street.  He made numerous mission trips to the Valley with First Baptist Church as a construction volunteer.

From 2000 until December of 2017, the date of his final retirement at the age of 85, he did inventory work for Wilson Supply, or its successor companies, traveling for several years, then working from home in later years.  His career in the oilfield supply business spanned 60 years, with the exception of the three years mentioned.  His last assignment was for D-NOW (Distribution-National Oilwell).  Between Continental Emsco in 1957 and National Oilwell in 2017, there were numerous ownership and name changes and spin-offs, but the same company.

His employees would tell you he was a hard worker and expected the same from others.  At one time he could recite stock numbers of every item in a store’s inventory.  He was known in the company as an astute price negotiator while in charge of the distribution center in Houston, and many letters he received from well-wishers upon his retirement made mention of that in a humorous way.

Bobby accepted Christ as a youth and was baptized as a young father in 1957. He served as Head Usher and Church Treasurer at Del City First Southern Baptist Church and was ordained a Deacon there in 1976.  He has been an active member of First Baptist Plano since 1989 and a faithful member of the Chapel Class.

Bobby is survived by his wife Nell; daughter Kimberly Ann Priess and her husband Steve, of Allen, Texas and son Bryan Martin Hull and his wife Lisa of Carrollton, Texas; he also leaves seven grandchildren, Meredith Koonce, Shelby Stokes and her husband Taylor, Abbey Brubaker and her husband Tanner, Holly Carter, Brittany Campbell and her husband Patrick, Logan Priess and Hunter Priess; great-grandchildren, Emery Kate Stokes, Avery Elizabeth Stokes, Easton Patric Stokes and Oakley Hunter Priess; sister Lynnita Terrill, Jimtown, Oklahoma, brother Rear Admiral Wesley Hull, Ret. and his wife Jeanette, Ardmore, Oklahoma, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son David and brother-in-law Archelowe Terrill.

Bobby was a loving and generous husband and father and took great pleasure in being a grandfather and great-grandfather. He had an outgoing personality, loved life, loved to be busy and was a friend to many.  He was rarely angry and loved to tease those around him, and, in return, was teased a lot himself. His sense of humor and ready laugh will be missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends for a visitation Saturday, February 12, 2022, from 10:00-12:00 noon at Allen Family Funeral Options.

Bobby will be laid to rest at a graveside service following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. at Plano Mutual Cemetery, Plano, Texas; officiated by Dr. Craig Curry.
