Bobby Keith Brooks

Mar 18, 1956 — Jun 29, 2026

Plano, Texas

Bobby Keith Brooks, 70, left this earth on June 29, 2026, in Dallas, Texas after a courageous five-year battle with cancer.

Born on March 18, 1956, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, he was raised in a military family. Most of his childhood was spent in San Antonio, Texas and Hampton, Virginia. He was a graduate of Bethel High School in Hampton, Virginia and remained there before moving to Smithfield, Virginia. He relocated to Plano, Texas to live with his sister and brother-in-law in 2021. He remained a bachelor his entire life.

Raised in a Christian home and a member of the Baptist faith, he was attending Hunters Glen Baptist Church in Plano, Texas and was a member of the AAA Life Group at the time of his passing.

He embraced his southern heritage and was passionate about the food that came with it. Happiness for him consisted of biscuits and gravy, soup beans and cornbread, chicken fried steak, and Texas barbecue.

Bobby loved cars so it was natural for him to choose a career as a mechanic. Initially working at an Exxon gas station, he then worked for several years at Montgomery Ward’s Automotive Center and finally at Terry’s Automotive in Hampton, Virginia.

An unapologetic fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he proudly wore his silver and blue, win or lose. Along with many others in his family, NASCAR was a big part of his life. He was also a big fan of WWE and country concerts, Hank Williams Jr. in particular.

Bobby was very fond of animals. It was common for him to reminisce about Noah, the family dog. He also loved spoiling and pet sitting for his sibling’s pets; Lucy, Bodie, and Faith.

With a heart for family and friends, he never hesitated to roll up his sleeves and help wherever needed and was the “go to” for family DIY projects. Upon the death of his father, he made sure his mother’s needs were addressed and shared caregiver duties in her later years. The pinnacle of his servanthood came in 2011 when he donated a kidney to his younger brother Jim.

Bobby is survived by his sister Jackie Neunaber-Kern (Robert) of Plano, Texas, his brother Jim Brooks (Marcia) of Hampton, Virginia, cousins David Beason, John Evans (Gail), and Janet Linthicum (Tim), multiple nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Alva Brooks and Bonnie Beason Brooks as well as his brother-in-law, Jesse Neunaber, his aunt Naomi Evans and her husband Al, uncle James Beason and his wife June, and his cousin-in-law Sandy Beason.

A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest a donation in his name to the American Cancer Society or the American Kidney Fund.

Private interment will be in Virginia.
