Bobbie Jo Bates was born March 1, 1945, in Gilmer, Texas, to parents Leslie Sewell and Josephine (Gaddis) Bates. She passed away November 1, 2023, in Richardson, Texas, due to health complications related to lung cancer.

Bobbie worked for Baylor Medical Center at Garland as a medical transcriptionist from 1973 until she retired in 2011. After retirement, Bobbie enjoyed spending time with her family, going out to eat and catching up with friends, reading many books and spoiling her kitties.

Bobbie is survived by her brother, Jr. Bates; niece, Traci (Alford) BaDour; nephew, Mark Bates and his wife, Holly; great nieces, Madison (BaDour) Tubbs and her husband, Charles; and Ashley (Bates) Applewhite; great nephews, Mason BaDour and Justin Bates; cat, Stormy; and many extended family members and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Bobbie’s life will be held Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 2:30 P.M. at First United Methodist Church of Richardson, 503 N. Central Expressway, Richardson, Texas, 75080, with Dr. Clayton Oliphant officiating. There will be a reception following the service at the church.

Bobbie was a huge animal advocate and asked that in lieu of flowers, if desired, donations may be made to help animals. One of the organizations she frequently donated to was, the SPCA at https://www.spca.org/memorialgiving.
