Billy was born August 27, 1928 in Tira, Texas to George and Gertrude Taylor and grew up on a farm where
his father was a cattle rancher. He was very proud of his family history, which included native-American
ancestry. Growing up on a farm, he developed a strong work ethic which carried with him for the rest of
his life. He also developed a passion for cars and driving that continued late in life. Bill was an excellent
driver and Saturday evenings were usually spent driving around the town squares of Sulphur Springs and
Cooper with his buddies trying to impress the girls. It worked.
After graduating from East Texas State University (TAMU - Commerce) with a bachelor’s degree in
business administration, he married Myron Frances Young of Cooper, Texas on July 11, 1952. During that
time, he served as Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War stationed in Ogden, Utah.
After his service, Bill accepted a position with Southland Life Insurance and spent his entire career with
them. The Southland employees were truly an extended family. Bill and Myron moved to the
Lochwood/White Rock Lake Area of Dallas where they raised their three boys, Brad, Chris and James.
During his time in Dallas, Bill enjoyed raising his family as well as attending sporting events, golfing and
fishing trips with his co-workers. He retired from Southland Life Insurance Company as Assistant Vice
President, Data Processing in 1984. In retirement, he and Myron moved to Hideaway Lake Resort where
they were members of First United Methodist Church in Lindale, Texas. An avid golfer, fisherman,
hunter and Cowboys fan, he and Myron loved the retirement life at Hideaway. Most recently he has
been living at the Conservatory Plano TX for the last 6 years to be closer to his family. With the efforts
and love of Jane Guthrie, his personal caregiver, he never lost his sense of humor or Cowboy wisdom
and always had many wonderful stories to share.
He is survived by his three sons and their spouses, Brad, Chris (Xiomara) and James (Joni) Taylor,
grandson Wyatt Taylor and two nieces Susan Moss and Diane Kessler. He was preceded in death by his
sister Nell Jean Jack, first wife - Myron Frances Taylor, and his second wife - Mary Ann Taylor.
Graveside Services for Billy George Taylor, age 93, are scheduled for 11am on October 11 at Tira
