Betty "Sitty/Granny" L Daggett

June 13, 1929 — July 23, 2021

Betty L. Daggett was loving, sophisticated, and the matriarch of the family. She passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of July 23, 2021.

Betty L. Daggett was born on June 13, 1929, in Decatur, Alabama. The only child of Louis Landers, and Martha Tarpley. Betty lost her mother to illness when she was four years of age. After losing her mother, she went to live in Pascagoula, Mississippi with her Aunt Dadie, and Uncle John R. It was there in Pascagoula that she met the love of her life, James (Jimmy) Daggett at school. They married soon after, and Betty embraced his large Lebanese family which consisted of six sisters and one brother.

Jimmy was enlisted in the service and was stationed at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii, in which he remained there for four years. After fulfilling his obligation to the military, he returned home to Betty in Mississippi. There at Ole Miss, Betty worked for the Athletic Department, while Jimmy followed his lifelong dream in education and coaching. It was at that particular time that they decided to start a family and had their first child, Vicki. Eventually having two more children, Rene, and Robert. Betty and Jimmy were married 52 years until Jimmy suddenly passed away while they were on vacation on January 1,1995.

Betty started her professional career working at Keesler Airforce Base at the PX. She worked as an Administrator in which she became the buyer for all children’s and woman’s clothing in the South and Southeast traveling all over the world. She eventually transferred to AAFES (Army Airforce Exchange Services) Headquarters in Dallas to be a buyer for all their cosmetic departments. Later adding toys and jewelry. Before retiring with them, The General asked if she had any knowledge in sewing. Being an experienced seamstress, she built an entire sewing and domestic division for AAFES worldwide. After 30 years with AAFES, she retired from her senior management position in June of 1984 at Grade 13. It was the greatest accomplishment for a woman at that time.

Betty enjoyed attending her church, traveling, having lunch with her “The Rag Ladies” lunch group, shopping, playing some slots at the casino, and spending time with family.

Betty is survived by Daughter Vicki Nix and husband AL; Daughter Rene Thomas and husband Mike; Son Robert Daggett; Granddaughter Deana McCormick and husband Jimmy; Granddaughter Jennifer Nix and Locke Pleninger; Stephanie Sjoberg and husband Ken; Chris Thomas; Great Grandchildren Kade and London McCormick. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Landers, and Martha Tarpley, Husband Jimmy Daggett
