Dana L. Thompson was born on February 2, 1965 in Washington D.C, to parents John McKinley and Josie Marie (Eason) Thompson. He passed away on the morning of May 6, 2021, at the age of 56. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, pastor, author, and mentor.
Dana was an ambitious young man who had a passion for music, comedy, and technology. In 1983, Dana graduated from Central High school in Landover, Maryland. As a young adult, Dana explored his talents and became a local DJ and comedian, known to have performed with Martin Lawrence. Dana later gave his life to Jesus and began to serve in the ministry while also pursuing his professional career. In 1987, Dana met his wife, Rose at Ebenezer AME Church and they married on November 22, 1988. The happy couple raised five beautiful children. Dana was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive father.
His professional career began in records management in a downtown Washington, D.C. law firm, where he was instrumental in the advancement of the record department’s technological infrastructure. He went on to earn his AA Computer Networking and Applications certifications from TESST Technical College. This was the start of his career in information technology, computer information systems, and technical training. Dana also studied IT Management at University of MD; and he received his BA of Christian Studies at Andersonville Theological College. Dana always sought out ways to help his family and friends achieve career success throughout his entire career primarily by providing work placement assistance as well as serving as a mentor to nearly anyone who asked him family or friends. Over his dynamic career, Dana received several Technology certifications including: A+, Net+, Microsoft (Programs) Master Certification, Microsoft Technical Associate as well as Business Writing and Management certification. Dana had founded, created, and sold multiple businesses, at the time of his death, PTG was his current business, and he was also employed with Clark Hill LLC organization.
Dana was not only a pastor and minister to those he served, but he gladly and faithfully built close relationships with many as a spiritual father, nurturing and guiding his spiritual sons as they continued to strengthen their relationship with the Lord. Dana also developed his global ministry visiting several countries across the world sharing the gospel and later developing a virtual platform. Additionally, Dana was the author of five books and was at the beginning stages of his sixth book.
For over ten years, Dana produced many television broadcasts that aired on a local Maryland cable TV station. Recently, he has been planning and preparing to launch the Kingdom Family Legacy Broadcast that will air on Atlanta’s local cable channel and most social media platforms. Dana’s love for the Lord has driven him to reach so many people across the world. He was such a passionate, caring, giving, and loving man who impacted the lives of everyone he encountered. Dana will be loved and greatly missed by his wife of 33 years, children, family, friends, and colleagues.
Dana is survived by his loving wife: Rose Thompson; children: Theresa Kelea Price and her wife Latoya, Elijah Michael Thompson, Jared McKinley Thompson, Ariana Odessa Thompson, and Karisma Marie Thompson and her fiancé Calvary; grandchildren Isaac and Nevaeh Price, and Novia Thompson; siblings Deborah Phillips and her husband Wayne, Denise Turner and her husband Dave, Donna Brown and her husband Kole, Darrell Thompson, Derrick Thompson and his wife Garlina; father-in-law Michael Green and his wife Marion; brother and sisters-in-law Victoria Holmes and her husband Daryl and Michilli Hardy and her husband Joseph; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and other family, and friends. Dana was preceded in death by his parents, and mother-in-law Nellie Green.
There will be a celebration of Dana’s life at a funeral service on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 12:00 noon at Allen Family Funeral Options with Rev. Darrell Godlock officiating.
