Anna Therolene (Teddy) Brown Rector, age 100, died April 21, 2025, at her home in Amarillo, Texas with her family by her side. Private graveside service was held May 24, 2025, and was officiated by Dr. Todd Harris at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas.
Teddy was born February 22,1925 in Fort Supply, Oklahoma to Dewey Brown and Alma Teeters Brown. She was raised by her mother, Alma Teeters, stepfather, Jim Devore, and beloved grandmother, Ollie Teeters.
Teddy’s years were enriched by the love of family and friends. She met her husband, Don Rector, in high school at Fort Supply, Oklahoma and married him in 1943 before he left for WWII. After Don graduated from OU, with a geology degree in 1950, he began his career as an Exploration Geologist. Teddy called these days the “oil patch days” for 35 years as she and Don moved their family to multiple cities in Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana, and Texas.
Teddy always saw the value of being involved in every community where she lived. The last move brought Teddy and Don to Plano, Texas for 45 years. Teddy and Don were active members of Christ United Methodist Church where Teddy started the first library, serving as head librarian for ten years. Teddy never met a stranger, volunteered for multiple organizations, and was nominated for Volunteer of the Year in Collin County, Texas.
In 2015 Teddy moved to Amarillo, Texas to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and John Andrews, and granddaughter, Beth McCurry. Teddy embraced her time at The Craig Independent Senior Living and volunteered as a Craig Ambassador. Teddy saw the value in giving back, helping others, and would do anything to make someone feel loved. She devoted herself to loving her nuclear family, extended family, and people who became chosen family.
A note left by Teddy for us all stated “I want you to remember my life with joy, travel in my honor, shop with enthusiasm, and love our family and friends as I taught you!!”
