Ann Marie Hawkins

Apr 16, 1940 — Jul 2, 2026

Plano, Texas

Ann Marie Hawkins, born on April 16, 1940 in Plymouth, Pennsylvania to Paul Henry Shovlin and Anna Catherine Shovlin, passed away on July 2, 2026. Ann received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Misericordia University in 1962, and then married James Joseph Hawkins (Jim) of Ashley, Pennsylvania in 1962.

Ann taught science at Myers High School in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania until the birth of her first child in 1963. Ann and Jim shared a love of travel, especially to Hawaii and other tropical destinations. Ann was the solid, loving core to her family with the most joyous laugh, smile and hugs. This joy extended out to anyone who was around her, whether she was at a party, church event, garden club meeting, or really anywhere because she had the ability to make friends with everyone she met.

Ann and Jim moved together from Pennsylvania to Michigan to Connecticut and finally to Plano, Texas in 1980. Ann’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, including her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, brother, and other extended family members. Ann was a proud, nationally accredited flower show judge and a member of many garden clubs including The Plano Garden Club, Dallas Flower Lovers and The Dallas Daffodil Society. Ann was also an active member of the Women’s Group at her home parish, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Ann’s greatest gifts were her impeccable manners, warm hospitality, quiet confidence and most especially her kind and loving heart.

The family is grateful to the loving staff of The Family’s Choice who cared for Ann during her last years and for all of Ann’s friends who have continued to be a large part of her life after her dementia diagnosis.

Ann is survived by her sisters, Catherine Martin (Bal) of Carolina Beach, North Carolina, Marie McCormick (Charlie) of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, brother Paul Shovlin (Sue) of Laflin, Pennsylvania, children Jim Hawkins (Ellen) of Cypress, Texas, Katie Hartig (Rick) of Orlando, Florida, and Suzie Hawkins of Plano, Texas, grandchildren Jimmy (Thuy), Danny (Savie), Susie, Bridget and Max, great grandchildren Nate, Philip, Frances, Drew, Samuel and Annie, sisters-in-law Mary Ann Kovalcik of Denver, North Carolina and Janie Avis of Sewell, New Jersey, and many nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends. Ann is deeply loved and will be greatly missed but not forgotten. Ann will always be in the hearts of her family and friends. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 2006.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m., Friday, July 10, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Plano, Texas. The family will receive friends for a visitation 1 hour prior to the mass from 2:00-2:45 p.m.

Ann will be buried next to her husband at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions to be sent to the Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, Pennsylvania 18901.
