Anita Legate Butler was born May 29, 1933, in Pattonville, Texas to the parentage of Ollie Legate and Willie Estelle Walker Legate. Anita departed this life on February 20, 2025.
Anita’s educational experience began at Mintor Elementary School in Mintor, Texas, Deport Elementary then Deport High School then continued to East Lamar High School and graduated Valedictorian in 1951. She later received a degree in home economics from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas.
Anita accepted Christ at an early age, where she joined Deport Church of Christ, and she was instrumental in leading Virgil to Christ.
Anita married Virgil Butler on August 9, 1952. Due to Virgil being in the Air Force they first moved to Newfoundland, then on to Alexandria, Louisiana where their first daughter Brenda Walsworth was born. The next stop was Longview, Texas where Shannon Thompson was born then to Houston, Texas where Stacy Butler was born and then back to Longview, Texas and finally settled in Plano for 28 years then to their final home located in Lucas, Texas.
She was a member of several different Church of Christ congregations, and her last Church was Twin Creeks Church of Christ.
Anita worked in retail for a few years, she sold Avon, she also had an antique booth, but her main job was being a housewife. Anita was a very talented artist; she liked to read and go for walks. She was a member of the Plano doll club for many years. She was a huge collector of dolls, children’s dishes and books, broches and jewelry. She was a seamstress and sewed clothes for her dolls and also repaired them. She had a very good since of style and thrifting. She loved to sing hymnals.
Anita is survived by her husband Virgil Butler, three daughters Brenda Walsworth, Shannon Thompson, Stacy Butler, one brother Glenn Legate, three granddaughters Jessica Thompson, Allison Crawford, Margaret (Maggie) Pitney, one grandson Patrick Thompson, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her father Ollie Legate and mother Willie Legate.
A visitation will be held Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Allen Family Funeral Options.
A funeral service will be held Friday, February 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Allen Family Funeral Options.
There will be a reception immediately to follow the service.
Anita will be laid to rest at Fitzhugh Cemetery in Lucas, Texas following the reception.
