Alvin (Al) Boyd Garlington, Jr.

Alvin (Al) Boyd Garlington Jr., aged 73, of Plano, Texas went to be with the Lord on February 12, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. He was a devoted husband of 53 years, a loving father and uncle, and loyal friend to many.

Son of Alvin Boyd Garlington Sr. and Doris Bryant Garlington, he was born on October 20, 1947 in Fordyce, Arkansas where he was raised. Al graduated from Fordyce High School in 1965, an earned a Bachelor of Science at University of Arkansas at Monticello in 1967.

Al married Linda Faye Peace in 1967, and they came to the Dallas area in the early seventies, eventually, settling in Plano, Texas in 1973.  He owned multiple businesses, most notably, Garlington Insurance Agency which he started in 1980 and ran successfully with his wife for 37 years until their retirement in 2017. He was known for his expert knowledge of the insurance industry, attentive guidance, and personal service to customers. After retirement, Al started running and qualified for the 2019 Senior Olympics in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he participated in the 50, 400, and 800-meter competitions.

Al was an active member in his church over the years at Plano Bible Chapel and Providence Church where he enjoyed serving men’s ministries and missions to Mexico. He also enjoyed theology and studying the bible.

Al is survived by his wife, Linda Peace Garlington; daughter, Kim Garlington Christian of Allen, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Garlington Rose and Joshua Rose of Van Alstyne, Texas; sister, Sue Garlington Parnell and brother-in-law Bobby Parnell; niece, Angel Steelman and family, nephews Matthew Parnell and Michael Parnell, all of Fordyce, Arkansas; nephew, Alan Parnell and family of Rison, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother Solomon Alexander Garlington, and sister Jacqueline Ann Garlington.

Al will be remembered for the time he spent with his family, friends, customers, and sharing a good joke.

A celebration of life will be held for Al on March 6, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Allen Family Funeral Options, Plano, Texas with Pastor Eric "Gunny" Hartman officiating.
