Alton Lois Stone, age 81, passed away May 18, 2017 in Allen, Texas. Born the sixth child of nine in Pangburn, Arkansas, she will always be remembered by her passion for sewing and love for gospel music. After watching her mother sew for the family, Alton, at the age of seven, began sewing on her own and never stopped. In her early teenage years she played the piano at the Mt. Olive Church of God; eventually playing for her sisters' trio group. Upon graduating high school, she attended Lee College in Tennessee and later moved to Dallas to pursue her career as a seamstress. While there, she met the love of her life, Tommy Stone, the man who charmed her and kept her laughing. She and Tommy married in 1958 and had two children—Tommy Allen and Kimberly. Her 47-year marriage to Tommy was only interrupted with his passing in 2005. Alton's expertise as a seamstress flourished in Dallas and she found herself sewing samples for well-known clothing brands such as Bobbie Brooks, Prophecy and Herman Marcus. Other notable clients of Alton's included Dion Sanders, John Wiley Price and the Hunt Family. She sewed and beaded the wedding gown of Dallas TV Anchor Woman Clarice Tinsley. Alton's zeal for sewing was never more evident than when she sewed for her family late into the night often falling asleep on her machine as her ever-present gospel music played in the background. Alton loved a bargain. She never missed an opportunity to "dash" into a thrift store for a great find. After all, there may have been something she could have found to rework for herself or someone else. She always thought of others as she shopped and was always willing to help someone look the best they could. Alton is survived by her son, Tommy Allen Stone and wife Diane, daughter Kimberly Dealy and husband Douglass, grandchildren Natanya Thom, DeLea Stone, Randal Stone, Chad Stone, Kayla Stone and Marcie Burnham, great grandchildren Christopher Stone, Elijah D’Souza and Kinsley Burnham, and siblings Vernon Tharp and wife Ruth, Joann Luallen and husband Buddy. She is preceded in death by her husband Tommy Altus Stone, Doris Martin, Flatus Tharp, Douglas Tharp, Dagmar Tharp, Lynda Tharp and V.O. Tharp. If one were to ask a clergyman what people pray for most, he likely would say that they pray to find the love of their life or to discover their hidden talents- maybe they simply pray for a wonderful family. Alton Lois was surely smiled upon by God as she had all three and more. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 22, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Allen Family Funeral Options, 2120 W. Spring Creek Pkwy. Ste. E, Plano, Texas 75023. A funeral Service will be held on May 23, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Allen Family Funeral Options. Alton will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro, Texas at 2:00 PM on May 23, 2017.
