Alta Royce Harbin was born on October 17, 1934, in Eastland County, Texas, and passed away peacefully on January 14, 2020, in Lewisville, Texas, at the age of 85. Her parents were Roy Taft Harbin and Opal Lisenbee. Siblings Edward Harbin, Hannah Fuller, James (“Jackie”) Harbin, and Opal Jean Gish preceded her in death.
Alta grew up in Eastland. After the death of her mother, the family moved to Sherman, Texas, where Alta completed high school at the age of 16. She worked as a secretary and administrative assistant at Jefferson Pilot Insurance Company for nearly forty years. During that time, she lived in Dallas and, later, in Waxahachie. For the past thirty years, she has lived in Grapevine, Texas, with her first cousin and best friend, Don Dempsey.
She loved dogs, especially her Dalmatian, Bernie. Her hobbies included gardening, listening to music, watching movies, and shopping with her sister. Alta will be remembered by family and friends as a caring, generous person with a sharp and somewhat wry sense of humor.
Alta is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Marvin (“Buddy”) and Kieu Harbin; sister and brother-in-law, Mickie and Terry Maze; first cousin, Don Dempsey; three nieces and six nephews.
Her family invite you to join them in honoring Alta’s memory on Saturday, February 1, 2020, at Allen Family Funeral Options, 2112 West Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, Texas, from 4 to 6 p.m. There will be an informal service of remembrance at 5:30 p.m.
If it is your wish, the family suggests memorial donations, in Alta’s name, to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) www.secure.aspca.org/donate.
