Allen Barseth

October 12, 1947 — August 6, 2022

Allen Earl Barseth was born in Houston, Texas on October 12, 1947, to parents Earling and Billie (Byers) Barseth.

As a child his father, an Air Force navigator, would take him on base to watch airplanes. Allen said there was something magical about airplanes and he knew someday he would be a pilot.

He received his B.S. in Aeronautical operations at San Jose State university. Afterwards, he joined the air force where he became a 2nd lieutenant and flew C-130's in Southeast Asia. His proudest moments serving were the airlifts made carrying hundreds of refugees out of Saigon during the last days of the Vietnam war. After the war, he finished his 6 years as a captain at Little Rock Airforce Base, Arkansas. During that time, he met his soon to be wife, Judy.

Allen flew for several airlines before being hired at United, where he enjoyed flying as a captain of their largest aircrafts including the Boeing 777's. He was a man with a huge spirit who loved to make people laugh. Often on his flights he would tell jokes or play trivia games over the intercom.

He absolutely loved his job and would often say "I can't believe they pay me to do this!" After retiring from over 17 years at United he bought a 2-seater sport cruiser which his wife and he enjoyed many hours of flying. He also loved boating, corvettes, studying history and playing golf. In 2017 Allen was awarded the Wright Brothers "Master Pilot" award. Representing 50 years of flying, this award is an honor less than 6,000 pilots have received. Allen was a great man who lived a life full of love and adventure.

Allen is survived by his wife Judy, daughter Katherine, his brother Darik  and his grandson Rease.

There will be a funeral service to celebrate Allen’s life Monday, August 15, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. The family will receive friends prior to the service for a visitation that begins at 11:00 a.m. at Allen Family Funeral Options.

There will be a reception following the service.

Allen will be laid to rest with military honors at Dallas/Ft Worth National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., Dallas, Texas.
