Alice Anne Kelly McCurdy was born December 30, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas to parents Martha Anne Henderson and Edward Scruggs Kelly; died April 22,2022 in Plano, Texas at the age of 80.
Alice grew up in Nashville Tennessee, graduating from Harpeth Hall Academy in 1958. She then moved to Texas to attend Texas Christian University in Fort Worth where she pledged Pi Beta Phi and majored in History. Alice settled in Dallas ("Alice from Dallas!") to teach school and raise her beautiful family.
Alice was a unique, loving, and powerful person who lived her life with passion & purpose. Music, books, and art filled her home, her life and her soul. She was an extraordinary soprano, a sensitive pianist, and a prolific listener of music. She instilled the love of learning, music, and art in her family. She was a longtime supporter of The Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Museum of Art, Kimball Art Museum, and many other D/FW cultural institutions. She was a dedicated teacher in the Dallas ISD for almost 3 decades — retiring from Rusk Middle School in 2006.
Alice loved and valued family, friends and her faith; she spent her life dedicated to loving, nurturing, and supporting her family and those around her. In her final years, all she wanted was to be surrounded by family — immersed in the daily life of a big “Happy Family Circus”. She was truly one-of-a-kind and will be dearly missed by everyone who loved her.
Alice is survived by 2 siblings — William Kelly (Murfreesboro, Tennessee) and Carole Kelly (Columbia, Tennessee); 3 children — Patrick McCurdy (Sherman, Texas), Michael McCurdy (Queens, New York), and Kathryn Ivey (Plano, Texas); and 8 grandchildren: Peyton, Ryan, Joey, Gavin, Olivia, Easton, Finlay and Emmett.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Wilshire Baptist Church, 4316 Abrams Rd., Dallas, Texas 75214.
