Alexa Cuayahuitl Cortes Chavez was born August 13, 2009 in Adrian, Michigan to parents Armando Chavez and Maria Del Pilar Cortes Chavez
Alexa was always a girl full of surprises.
Even before she was born the doctor told us we were expecting a boy, but when the day came, we discovered that she was in fact a girl!
Alexa had the biggest heart from an early age and always tried to help others.
When she was around 4 or 5 years old, she saw gardeners working and said, "mommy can we make them lemonade it's hot outside and they need something to drink." As she grew up, she continued to be generous by taking blankets and food to the homeless because she always wanted to give more than she received. We’ve never met someone so young with this much life who was always trying to help and give more to others.
Alexa had many dreams in life.
She wanted to be a million things like a Zumba instructor, model, etc. In reality, she WAS a million things: daughter, sister, friend and the ray of sunshine we all need in our lives. She had the funniest laugh that was contagious, always happy with a beautiful smile on her face, intelligent and had an amazing imagination. Most importantly she was always grateful for what she had.
Alexa was always honest and full of faith.
Even in her last days she was still the most truthful girl we all knew. Her faith was so strong that she was not afraid to move forward. This faith led her to help others around her who will one day give testimony about how she helped them.
Alexa was an instrument in the hands of God.
She had an impact on everyone's life, even those she didn't know. In Alexa's backpack, she had a keychain that said: "Jesus is the Door" John 10: 9 “Give me back the joy of your salvation and support me with your willing Spirit” Psalm 51:12.
Today we honor our beautiful Alexa and treasure the great legacy of love, faith and service that she leaves us.
