Alec McMullin

November 28, 1947 — May 25, 2025

Dallas

Our husband, father, and Paw-Paw, Alec Gene McMullin, met Jesus face to face when he passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025, after a multi-year battle with dementia. He was born on November 28, 1947, in Salem, Oregon, to Charles and Doris McMullin. The family moved back to their hometown of Sedalia, Missouri, when he was just a baby, and sister Judy and brothers Rick, David, and Dan soon followed. As a youth, he was involved in many activities, such as baseball and Royal Ambassadors at First Baptist, Sedalia, Boy Scouts, and playing the clarinet in the marching band. He graduated in 1965 from Smith-Cotton High School and went on to the University of Missouri in Columbia, where he received his Bachelor of Science – Mechanical Engineering, as well as an MBA from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

He met his wife, Betty Louise Viebrock, in high school, where they were named Senior Sweethearts and married August 10, 1968, in Sedalia, Missouri. During their almost 57-year marriage, they welcomed a daughter, Shelley, and a son, Brian.

Alec was gifted in many areas of business and had a multifaceted career. He began his professional career at The Gas Service Company in Kansas City, Missouri, but soon moved into the oil and petrochemical fields. The family moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Houston, Texas, where he joined Superior Oil. He retired from ExxonMobil in 1999 after having worked in Venezuela, Nigeria, and Qatar. He began working part-time in real estate and continued in that field until moving to Dallas in 2007 to be near his daughter’s family.

Over the years, as a family, we were members at Maywood Baptist Church, Independence, Missouri, Highland Park Baptist Church, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Champion Forest Baptist Church, Spring, Texas. He and Betty joined Prestonwood Baptist Church in 2007 and were active members of the Fellowship class. He enjoyed watching and listening to Pastor Graham’s sermons through PowerPoint Ministries in his later years and supported this ministry faithfully. Alec and Betty loved traveling during their retirement years and made many trips to Europe and the Middle East. He loved reading mystery novels and especially enjoyed watching historical documentaries about World War II. Another one of his loves was his sailboat – he enjoyed boating in various lakes in both Oklahoma and Texas and relished working in his woodshop and building backyard projects in several houses over the years.

Alec is survived by his wife, Betty, and daughter, Shelley Embry (Lawrence) of Dallas, Texas; son, Brian McMullin (Laetatia) of The Woodlands, Texas; grandchildren Caroline Popoff (Billy) of Frisco, Texas and Cullen Embry (Washington, D.C.); Lexi McMullin of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Olivia McMullin of Charleston, South Carolina, Eliza McMullin and Lillie McMullin of The Woodlands, Texas and great-grandson, Beckham Popoff of Frisco, Texas. Alec is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Doris McMullin, and his sister, Judy Kraus.

There will be a celebration of Alec’s life at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Prestonwood Baptist Church, Faith Chapel, Plano, Texas with Pastor Neal Jeffrey officiating. If you wish to join the service via webcast, please visit: abmobilmac@aol.com
