Alan Lorton

December 25, 1954 — February 11, 2025

Alan Lorton (born Edward Alan Lorton) known as "Bud" to his family, passed away on February 11, 2025, after a short but valiant fight against cancer.

Alan was born a Christmas baby in 1954 to Warren Lorton and Ellen Fouts Lorton in Peoria Illinois. At the age of seven Alan and family including his beloved sisters moved to Dallas, Texas.

His love for music was immediate in his life and though he played different instruments, his true love was guitar. He graduated from UT Dallas, with a degree in music and though he often joked it was the most "worthless" degree, it was something he was deeply admired for because he followed his passion, even moving to California in the 80s to mid-90s to play with many different bands and even performing at the Troubadour.

Alan eventually returned to Dallas, and it was there he met the love of his life Shelli, whose son, James, Alan raised as his own. Together they built a life of 20 years and created a home filled with love, laughter, and the kind of family they had both only imagined was possible. He showed everyone in his life that growing up didn't mean you had to get old.

Alan is survived by his wife Shelli Perez Lorton, his stepson James Lemon, his sisters Carol (Phil) Gentry, Mary Lee (David) Dyer, his Aunt Kay (Skip) Beatty, his niece Stacy (Micah) Weirich and numerous other beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. He's predeceased in death by his father, his mother and his sister, Lynne Balderson.

The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday February 20, 2025, at Allen Family Funeral Options.

If desired, and in lieu of flowers please make a plant donation to help create a garden to honor Alan at Shelli and James home.
