Adolfo Cantu, Jr.

January 25, 1940 — October 6, 2024

Adolfo Cantu Jr., 84, US Air Force Captain (retired), beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away to be present with the Lord on October 6, 2024, with his wife Maria and son Robert by his side.

He was born in Laredo, Texas. Adolfo was not only a devoted husband and father, but he was also a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving our country with honor and dedication. He attended officer’s training school at Lackland Air Force Base. Later, he was assigned to Sheppard Air Force Base and became a master instructor in the Air Training Command, often recognized for his outstanding achievements. He retired honorably as a distinguished Captain of the Air Force. Following his military service, Adolfo dedicated himself to a second career as a director of an agency within the US government, receiving numerous awards in recognition of his outstanding leadership.

Adolfo Cantu Jr. married Maria Del Rosario Cantu, the love of his life, beginning a lifelong journey of love and commitment for nearly 60 years, creating a loving family full of cherished and lasting memories.

Adolfo Cantu Jr., also fondly known as GP, will always be remembered for his profound love, devotion, loyalty, and generosity to his wife and family, his wit, his wisdom, commitment to excellence and success, sharp analytical mind, logical thinking, unwavering patriotism and remarkable sense of humor. He really enjoyed family pizza nights, rooting for the Cowboys, trips to Costco and fixing things around the house with his son Robert, and spending quality time with his grandchildren.

Words cannot express how much he will be missed, but his love and legacy will live on in all of us. We join here today, we watch in remembrance and gratitude, in awe and profound love...as "off you go into the wild blue yonder, climbing high into the sun...souls of men dreaming of skies to conquer, you have your wings, ever to soar." We are grieving your loss, but we smile, for we know you will always be with us, and in God's plan, we will one day all soar together again.

He is survived by his loving wife, Maria, his children Robert, Roxanne (Brandon), Rick (Ashlie), his grandchildren Camden, Andrew, Aaron, Jaxon, Jude, Jordan, and Jolie, sisters Marina and Corina, brothers Cesar and Xavier and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Del Refugio, father, Adolfo Cantu Sr., and sisters Cecelia and Rosa.

A funeral service with military honors will be held Monday, October 21, 2024, at St Marks Catholic Church, 1201 Alma Dr., in Plano Texas, beginning with a 9:30 a.m. rosary, followed by mass, to mourn and celebrate Adolfo Cantu Jr.'s life and legacy.
