Following a lengthy illness, our beloved mother passed peacefully from this earth and into our Father's arms on Monday, May 24, 2010.
Mary was a kind, gentle woman with a backbone of steel. Generous and loving, she was also a private individual.
As a child, she moved from Indianapolis, Indiana to Louisville, Kentucky before settling in Atlanta, Georgia. She excelled at music and loved to read.
Attending the University of Georgia, she earned a B.C.S. in economics and met her future husband, James Scott Wilson. They were married on August 19, 1950 and then bore two sons in 1951 and 1956.
Mary proved to be an extremely strong woman as the wife of a career United States Marine. Multiple moves from Virginia, Hawaii, and other destinations with two young sons were met with an iron will.
She faced major trials when Dad was deployed to various locations; most notably Viet Nam during 1966.
During these times, Mom was a rock to which we could cling. Though the stress must have been tremendous, she never displayed it to her sons.
Following Dad's retirement from the Marine Corps, the family made one final move to Texas. Mary quickly became active in her new location; both within the church and with her newfound friends.
With Mary's open and loving nature, people soon opened their lives to her. She became a mother to many more than her two sons.
The year 1989 brought retirement from a second career at UPS. Mary and Scotty were then able to enjoy nearly 20 years together doing the things that they loved. Mom's time was filled with family, friends, Church, reading, music, and some travel.
After an exceptional and wonderful 57 years of marriage, life took a sad turn when Dad passed away during September of 2007.
True to her nature, Mary rarely expressed how lonely she felt; keeping her grief close to the vest. Thankfully, the open arms of family and friends embraced her during this time.
In January of 2009, a sudden illness struck. Determined to return home, Mary valiantly endured many trials during the past year.
On Monday, Mary was called to her eternal home. Though we prayed fervently for a bodily healing; Mary received an eternal healing from our Heavenly Father.
While we grieve her loss, we rejoice that Mom is now with Our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus and forever reunited with our Dad.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church Plano, 4550 Legacy Dr., Plano, Texas 75024 with The Reverend Jeff Rawn officiating.
