Gary Ward Scott

Gary Ward Scott was born on August 21, 1933 in the small, South Texas town of Charlotte and it was there and in nearby San Antonio that he spent his youth through the duration of World War II. He and his older brother sang harmony at school assemblies, local USO shows, and other civic productions. As a young man, Gary worked in harvests and nearby oil fields and always helped out at his dad's filling station and garage.He graduated from Baylor University with degrees in Foreign Services, History, Political Science, and Economics. Gary served overseas in the United States Army and he enjoyed exploring European culture during his time there. He also contributed to our nation by working in the Corps of Engineers on important civil projects, working for several aerospace companies, and serving Veterans at a V.A. Hospital. Gary worked in a wide range of fields including newspaper reporting and editing, technical writing, publishing, photography, oil field geology, carpentry, printing, and chamber of commerce management. Gary loved music and was an accomplished piano player who could entertain friends and family for hours with his talent. After retirement, he traveled extensively around the world and lived for several years in Asia and Latin America. Mr. Scott authored a book entitled Memoirs of a Winner which recounted his travels, his life, and his successful battle with Stage 4 Melanoma. Gary passed away on August 21, 2010 in Ft. Worth, Texas. He is survived by his daughter Shelly Wemhoener of Sachse, Texas, son Matthew Scott of Hudson, Massachusetts, brother Walter Scott of Goliad, Texas, and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Christ United Methodist Church, 3101 Coit Rd., Plano, Texas. If desired, memorials may be made in Gary's name to Fund 51414, Immunology Research, Baylor Healthcare Foundation, 3600 Gaston Ave., Suite 100, Dallas, Texas 75246.
