Daniel William Ruth was born in Davenport, Iowa on August 9, 1949 to parents Delbert Charles and Constance Marie Ruth. Although he was Iowan by birth, Dan was a true Texan at heart. He loved country music and pickup trucks and often enjoyed spontaneous road trips and he could spend countless hours just people watching. Dan absolutely loved a good pecan pie and was a fan of any food on a stick. He often joked about his wish for someone to invent bacon wrapped bacon or pecan pie on a stick.
Dan graduated from Texas Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1971. While in Lubbock he met his future wife, Carla. They were married in January 1972. Dan and Carla were married for 38 years. Dan was a wonderful husband who put his family first in all decisions. He always made sure his wife andchildren were well taken care of.He loved laughter and enjoyed telling good stories. He loved storytelling so much he rarely ever told a story only one time.
Dan was a member of the Army National Guard from 1971 to 1977. He was a very proud, patriotic American. He worked as an Engineer for over 35 years. Dan was well known in his field as someone who always did the job right and who protected his employees. In difficult times, he did everything he could to keep all his employees working. His hard won reputation inspired others to seek his counsel and approval.
Dan's three children were loved dearly by their father and he never missed an opportunity to tell them how proud he was of their accomplishments. He loved the time he spent hunting and fishing with his sons. He inspired his children to dream big and find a profession they enjoyed. The work ethic he taught them enabled them all to be successful in their chosen fields.
Dan was a member of the North Texas HOG chapter. He loved long rides on his motorcycle, particularly the hills around Austin. He used his writing talents to provide questionable advice to his readers as "Answerman" in the monthly Harley newsletters.
