Israel Rodriguez

March 25, 1933 — September 3, 2010

A kind husband, patient father, loving grandfather and an all around family man: these are all the labels that come to mind when we remember Israel Rodriguez. Family members surviving include his daughter, Debbie Santiago, Antonio Santiago, Nitzschia Santiago, Chris Santiago and Israel Rodriguez Jr. Family members deceased include Nelia Rodriguez, Basilia Rodriguez, Miguel Rodriguez, Ana Marino, Luz Rodriguez, and Jacinto Rodriguez. His friends and family members remember him as a simple man with a big heart. As a result of being raised in a humble home, Israel demonstrated a patient and selfless demeanor and always focused on pleasing others.

Israel was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico in March 25, 1933 to Basilia and Miguel Rodriguez. He was the youngest of four children. Israel accomplished much in his life. He had the honor of taking part in the air force and serving his country for four years between the years of 1953 through 1957. He told stories of how he had always dreamt of marrying a woman with green eyes. During the time of his service, he met Nelia Rodriguez, a green- eyed beauty who became his future wife and other half. They met at a church in New York City and wed in May 28,, 1955. They enjoyed 45 blissful years of marriage until the time had come for Nelia to enter God's kingdom.

Israel was a talented artist; he used his incredible skill when working as an architectural draftsman. After he retired, he would use these talents to create beautiful works of art during his free time. He painted gorgeous landscapes that captured the eye and the imagination. During his later years, he was a dedicated grandfather, as he enjoyed cooking for his family, taking long walks to the grocery store with his grandchildren, working in the yard and using his incredible craftsmanship when doing handiwork around the house. Israel will always be remembered for his quiet, easygoing and lovable personality and will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends at a visitation on Monday, September 6, 2010 from 6:30 until 8:30 in the evening at Allen Family Funeral Options. Israel will be laid to rest at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 with military honors at Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.
