Robert A Moore

Robert A. Moore died Sunday, September 27, of heart failure. He passed away peacefully in the company of loved ones. He was 69 years old.

Mr. Moore was born in Montgomery, Alabama, and spent his early years in the Florida panhandle and other southern states. He always considered this area his home.

He was part of a military family that moved quite often. He graduated from Nürnberg American High School in Germany, earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics at Florida State University, earned a Master's degree in Systems Engineering at Kansas State University, and was close to completion of an MBA from Virginia Tech. While attending college in Florida, he joined the ROTC program was commissioned in the U.S. Army.

He served in the Army for over 20 years, both as an Air Defense Artillery Officer and as a Systems Analysis Officer for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. His service included tours of duty in Greece, Korea and Vietnam. He was the recipient of numerous awards and commendations, including the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and the Distinguished Meritorious Service Medal. After retiring from the Army, he worked as a defense project manager for GE and ECC.

Mr. Moore loved reading since an early age, amassing a very large library once he was finally able to "settle down." He particularly enjoyed science fiction. He also was an aficionado of instrumental bluegrass music - collecting over 50 recordings of his favorite song "Under the Double Eagle." He was an enthusiastic strategy and fantasy sports game player and an avid fan of British comedies. His family and friends fondly remember his principled nature, good humor, and his delicious chili and lasagna.

He is survived by his daughter Rebecca Marie Rooney; his sons Alan Harold Moore and Robert Wallis Moore; their respective spouses Michael, Xiaojin and Lori; his grandchildren Ocean, Luna, Sylvan, Kristin, Ivy and Thomas; his sister Sara Hansen and his brother William Moore. His brothers Charles Thomas Reynolds and Charles Harold Moore, Jr. preceded him in the afterlife.

His memorial service will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 at First United Methodist Church of Richardson. He will subsequently be laid to rest with his beloved parents Thelma Joiner and Charles Harold Moore, Sr. at Florida National Cemetery.

Mr. Moore took great pleasure from the company of his dogs over the years. His family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Humane Society, ASPCA or animal rescue groups.
