Harvey was born Oct. 11, 1930 to Cora and Fay Moore in Wylie, Texas, and died peacefully on Dec. 20, 2010 surrounded by loving family. He graduated from Wylie High School and received a B.A. in Education from North Texas College (UNT) in 1951. Harvey entered the field of architecture and passed his state board exams in 1966.
He later became a partner in Brown, Moore and Brown, and then founded Harvey G. Moore Architects. Over the course of his career he designed numerous churches and municipal buildings in Collin and Denton counties, including the Collin County Courthouse and Jail, and El Dorado Country Club in McKinney. He was a member of AIA and the National Council of Architects, and received numerous awards for his designs. Harvey was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer, and traveled around the world. Throughout his life he was an active church member, served his community as president of the McKinney Chamber of Commerce in 1984-85, and was on the board of the Salvation Army.
Family was of significant importance to Harvey. He was preceded in death by his first wife Frances, infant son Michael Glyn, brother Harron Fay, and sister Ina Beth. He is survived by his wife JoAnne, brother Delbert Lyn (Bubbie) Moore, daughter Lisa Harrington (Chris), step-sons Rick Wright (Diana) and Mike Wright (Sherry), step-daughter Kathy Thomas (Kelly), grandchildren Christopher, Michael and Jennifer Landrum, Jeff Wright (Jessica), Leigh Wright, Matt and Michael Thomas and one great-grandchild Blair Wright.
The family will receive visitors Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Allen Family Funeral Options. Funeral service and reception will be at 10:00am, Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Christ United Methodist Church, Parker and Coit Rd. in Plano. Harvey will be laid to rest at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to the Salvation Army.
