Dr. Vinay B. Kothari, Regents' Professor Emeritus (retired) in the College of Business at Stephen F. Austin State University, passed away on October 15, 2010 in Dallas, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife of forty three years, Connie Sue Kothari of Nacogdoches; his daughter Madison Payal Goodwin (husband, Dave) of Plano, Texas; his son Timothy Kothari (wife, Julie) of Irving, Texas; his granddaughter Genevieve Goodwin; and brothers Lalit Kothari and Manu Kothari of Detroit, Michigan.
Dr. Kothari was born the youngest of seven brothers and sisters in Mumbai, India in December of 1940. He came to America in 1960 to attend schooland that he did. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, a Masters in Business Administration, and ultimately a Ph.D. from University of North Texas. While in Texas he met the love of his life, Connie. They eloped and began their life as a married couple in Canada; however, the young couple missed the warm weather they were accustomed to, and opted to move back to Texas in 1972. They settled in Nacogdoches, Texas and after more than 35 years, still call Nacogdoches "home."
Dr. Kothari held many academic honors and scholarly achievements, and recently authored Executive Greed, a non-fiction work that explores the contributions of corporate executives towards business success and failure, published by Palgrave Macmillan in July 2010. He has published extensively (100+ research studies) in leading business journals and books, and served as Editor in Chief of two peer-reviewed publications, the Journal of E-Business and the E-Business Review. For 10 years, he served as an appointed member on the South Texas District Export Council, a state advisory body of the U.S. Department of Commerce. He was a beloved Professor at SFASU and loving mentor to countless family members, friends, and students. He had a love for education, for writing, for travel, for good food, and for his family. He was affectionately called "Hubby," "Daddy," "Papa," "Kaka," and "Vinu." Moreover, he was a survivor of heart disease for 25-years. Those around him are profoundly saddened by his sudden passing.
A service in honor and memory of Dr. Kothari was held Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 1:30pm at Allen Family Funeral Options in Plano, Texas. In lieu of flowers, Dr. Kothari wished for donations to be made to the Dept. of Management, Marketing & International Business Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 13070, SFASU, Nacogdoches, TX 75965-3070.
