Dr. Robert E. Jenkins, Jr., Baptist Minister passed away on January 23, 2010 at the age of 83. He was born to Estes and Leva Jenkins in Dallas, Texas. He served in the Marines during WWII, graduated from Baylor and earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth. He pastored six Baptist churches in Texas: Whitehall, Gatesville; Arcadia Park, Dallas; First Baptist Cooper; Temple, Amarillo; First Baptist Levelland; and Hampton Place, Dallas. While serving as Director of Missions for Smith County Association in Tyler, Texas he led groups of volunteers to mission fields around the world including Brazil, Mexico, Kenya, Tanzania, Australia, Estonia, Czech Republic and Georgia Republic. In retirement he continued to enjoy mission work through Texas Partnerships and annual meetings of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He was also active in prison ministry. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Florine Ganze Jenkins; sons Byron and wife Peggy, grandsons Erik and Kyle; Glenn and wife Karla, grandchildren Natalie, Samantha and Carter; daughters Vivian Powell and grandson Drew; and Robin Mojica and husband Hiram. Visitation will be Saturday, January 29, 2010 at First Baptist Church Plano at noon, with service at 1:00 p.m. and burial to follow at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.
