Gregory (Greg) Bergwin

May 15, 1957 — April 16, 2017

Gregory (Greg) Gerard Bergwin was born on May 15, 1957 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to parents Arthur and Olga Bergwin. Greg grew up the youngest of three in South Milwaukee near Lake Michigan. After graduating high school in 1975, Greg pursued a degree at The University of Wisconsin at La Crosse in Recreation Management. He was the heart of a vibrant group of friends known as "The Whales", rooming with several and maintaining ties throughout his life. This group of very special friends was known for its outgoing friendships, wide range of celebrations and very positive outlook on life, something that characterized the man Greg was. At La Crosse he played football as an offensive lineman and forged numerous bonds that also lasted a lifetime. He loved the game of football, he loved his La Crosse Indians and he loved his Green Bay Packers. After graduating college, his love for all things golf and the outdoors sent him to one of the premier schools in the nation, where he obtained an associate's degree in Golf Course Operations and later became a Certified Golf Course Superintendent. He worked briefly at a golf course on Amelia Island, a place that he revisited many times throughout his life and shared a memorable trip there with his daughters in 2006. In 1983 Greg moved to Fort Worth, Texas to be near his sister Patti, brother-in-law, Marshall and their children. He began working as a superintendent at Ridglea Country Club and moved into the Copperfield Apartments where he met his lifelong friend Kevin Williams. Kevin soon became an extended member of the family and the running joke was that if Greg was ever in trouble, it was likely Kevin's fault! In 1990 Greg met Susan through mutual friends. This began his greatest journey as a loving dad to four girls. He offered unwavering support and unconditional love without question. Greg never missed a recital, game, or an opportunity to be with his family. Greg began working as the superintendent at The Cliffs at Possum Kingdom Lake in 1991 and soon fell in love with PK. In 1995, he and Susan purchased property at Possum Kingdom, a place where many large family gatherings and celebrations took place. His parents, brother, sister and their families made many visits to the lake house where there was never a shortage of jet skiing, brisket, ribs and of course, Miller Lite. It was appropriately painted yellow and green for his beloved Green Bay Packers. Possum Kingdom remains a special place to all of his family and countless friends who shared such fond memories there. Most recently, Greg worked in inside sales for AWC and received overwhelming support from longtime friend and business partner, Corby Davis. If you were to ask Greg what he most wanted in his life, it would undoubtedly be to see all four of his girls successful and happy. He lived to see all four of his daughters graduate from college and meet the loves of their lives. Second to being a dad to his girls, one of his favorite roles was being "Papa G" to grandson, Gregory Nash Carpenter, who was appropriately named after his loving grandpa. "So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy." John 16:22 Greg is survived by his daughters Elizabeth Riggs and her fiancé Todd Yells, Lucie Deuel and husband Ross, Carrie Herman and her husband Gil, Tori Carpenter and her husband J.R., grandchildren Gregory Nash, Madison and Cameron Carpenter and Paige Nolan, brother Ray Bergwin and his wife Ruth, sister Patti Stewart and her husband Marshall, nieces Kelly Arnold and her husband Bart, Betsy Bittiker and her husband Brian, nephew Jay Stewart and great nieces and nephews Katie and Kyle Bittiker, Dylan Arnold, Lee and Aintzane Arnold, and Emily Arnold. A celebration of life will be held for Greg on Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 1-6:00 P.M. at Gilley's Club 1135 S Lamar St, Dallas, Texas 75215.
