Robert D. McCrary was born in Tyler, Texas to Carroll Harvey McCrary and Mary Delay McCrary on August 20, 1940. He passed away on April 5, 2017 in Plano, Texas of complications of cancer. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Vicky McCrary, his daughter Larra Michelle McCrary and her partner Angie Makinen, and his son Joseph Mark McCrary and wife, Shoshana, and their three sons: Eli, Gabriel and Micah.
Bob graduated from Tyler John Tyler High School and the University of North Texas. He served in the United States Army as a radio and communications specialist. He served two years and returned to Texas to complete his education. After graduating from the University of North Texas in 1970 with a degree in business, Bob worked in business and then decided to change his direction and become a machinist. He always liked working with his hands so this was right up his alley. After he could no longer work with his hands he returned to the business sector. Bob was fascinated by the possibilities of space travel and read Science Fiction voraciously. He was also interested in the history of World War II, and the battles he remembered hearing about on the radio as a child. He loved flying and was interested in the types of warplanes developed during the war.
As his children came along, Bob became the ideal fan of all of their soccer games, baseball games and basketball games. He rarely missed a game, cheering for their victories and consoling them on the losses.
In his later years, Bob most enjoyed mowing his lawn and keeping it looking neat, watching the six o'clock news (a habit engrained in him by his parents) and watching television . In 2008 he assumed a new role: his daughter Larra was seriously injured in an automobile accident and was bed bound for seven months. Bob assumed part time care of Larra, in a tender and loving fashion. A very close bond was formed during this time between Father and Daughter.
Playing with grandchildren became a favorite activity for Bob. He was the kind of "Grampa" who would roll on the floor with them, make funny faces and funny noises and just in general have a good time with them. They will miss him very much.
Bob left behind a family who loved him as much as they were in turn loved by him. Bob always believed in being an honest, "good" man and he was. He learned to be a "Southern Gentleman" from his parents and never strayed from that ideal.
A memorial mass will be held, Thursday April 20, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Pkwy. Plano, Texas 75023
