Jerry Mcclure

February 21, 1928 — March 31, 2017

Gerald (Jerry) McClure was born on February 21st, 1928 to Jack and Verla McClure in Sawyerwood, Ohio, near Akron. Jerry grew up the youngest of three and lived a colorful childhood/youth, that produced lots of interesting stories he loved to tell in later years. After graduating from high school in 1945, Jerry enlisted in the US Army Air Corps and served his beloved country as a weatherman for two years. After the service, he attended the University of Kansas before settling in Coffeyville, Kansas. It was there that he spotted Mary Frances Taylor walking down the street, the two were married in 1953. The following years were spent in Oklahoma raising their family of four girls before moving to Richardson, Texas, in 1965.
For many years Jerry worked as a manufacturing and production engineer manager, which included designing projects like the monorail system for airports. It was his passion for creative design that helped launch his career as a custom home builder in 1973, a profession he enjoyed for several decades. In later years he invented an industrial Squeegee that was sold commercially and numerous other projects. More recently he designed a unique fountain for his backyard and designed a way to make gardening easier. He never stopped creating.
Jerry and Mary enjoyed 52 years of marriage that included four weddings, ten grandchildren and a strong faith in the Lord that was passed on throughout the family. After Mary went to heaven in 2005, Jerry continued to see his "quiver fill", becoming the patriarch to a family that now includes thirteen great-grandchildren. He recently found out there will be two additions to the family in the fall of this year. Jerry often quoted Psalm 127:5 - "Children are a gift of the Lord, How blessed is a man whose quiver is full."
In the summer of 2008, Jerry met Joni Leavitt while walking into church. Her husband of 52 years had also passed, so the two decided to sit together. Both couples had known each other and served as Life Group leaders. After a summer romance, they were married in December and enjoyed traveling, playing their beloved card game and living life to the fullest.
Jerry is survived by his wife Joni; daughters Holly, Dena and Kelly McClure, and Amy (Casey) Cook; 10 grandchildren: Keisha (Chris) Shannon, Eli (Stacy) Smith, Sarah (Garrett) Prechtl, Adam (Erynn) Schwegman, Nate (Breanna) Schwegman, Jaron Tafoya, Ben, Audrey & Claire Cook, and Madeline (Taylor) Winn; and 13 Great-Grandchildren. He was also loved by Joni's children; Garrett (Robbie) Leavitt, Todd (Claudia) Leavitt, Cheri (Ernen) Haby; 6 Grandchildren & 2 Great Grandchildren. Jerry had a brother, Kenny McClure and a sister, Juanita Funk, who preceded him to heaven.
