John Edward Wagner, 70, passed away on February 25, 2017, due to complications from pancreatic cancer. John was born on January 4, 1947, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to Lawrence E. Wagner and Edna Spangler Miall Wagner. He grew up in Puerto Rico as part of a military family and was fluent in both English and Spanish.
As an adult, John worked for Sunoco, beginning in the warehouse and working up to a position as a Natural Gas and Liquids (NGL) Trader. As a Sunoco/Oryx representative, John volunteered to teach children's literacy classes in Spanish. After working in Florida, Pennsylvania, and Texas, John retired for the first time in the early 1990s. He chose to remain active as a free-lance cameraman until 2001. During this career, John worked with countless celebrities, including Madonna, Clarence Clemmons, and Dick Clark.
John met the love of his life, Destiny, playing darts. Both participated on Team Mardi Gras, winning several division titles and the city championship one season. It was love at first sight, as John knew he and Destiny were meant to be when they shared their first dance. After a proposal, highlighted by a shooting star they took as a sign, John and Destiny married in Napa Valley, California on April 4, 2004. John and Destiny spent their marriage celebrating their love with date nights, fine dining, traveling, amateur photography, camping, and laughter. Together, they visited 46 of the 48 contiguous United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Canada, and numerous camping spots in the United States.
John is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of almost 13 years, Destiny; sons John Wagner, Michael Wagner (Judy), and Timothy Wagner, whom he shared with former spouse Donna McBride; grandson Zachary Wagner; brother Joseph Wagner (Barbara); nieces Jennifer Wagner and Amanda Wagner; their cherished cat, Spooky and countless friends around the world.
