Marilyn Jean Manning, 88, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 in Plano, Texas. She was born on August 5, 1928 in Racine, Wisconsin to John R. and Lydia (Laverance) Gloede. Marilyn grew up in Racine where she graduated from Washington High School in 1946. After high school, she began her banking career at Northside Bank in Racine as a bank teller. Marilyn worked at several banks in the Dallas area, retiring from Promenade National Bank/Compass Bank in Richardson, Texas in 1993. Marilyn married Wallace "Wally" Charles Manning on October 27, 1951 in Racine, Wisconsin, and were happily married for over 65 years. They moved to Dallas, Texas in 1958 to escape the cold Wisconsin winters. They raised their daughter Judy in the Lake Highlands area and moved to Plano in 1986. Marilyn was a member of Preston Meadow Lutheran Church. She enjoyed traveling, eating good meals prepared by her chef and son-in-law Tim Halls, and cheering on the Aggie football team. Marilyn was a preceded in death by her parents, John R. and Lydia (Laverance) Gloede, brother John Gloede and sister Grace Gloede, both of Racine, Wisconsin, her sister Ruth Carlson of Kenosha, Wisconsin and cousin Carol Hall Fox of Racine, Wisconsin and Homosassa, Florida. Marilyn is survived by her spouse Wallace Charles Manning of Plano, Texas, her daughter Judith "Judy" Jean (Tim) Halls of Plano, sister-in-law Margaret Boudreau of Racine, Wisconsin and her nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A private burial was held on December 20, 2016 at Dallas Fort-Worth National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Preston Meadow Lutheran Church, 6801 Coit Road, Plano, Texas 75024, at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Preston Meadow Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
